cheapest wooden train set?

dot1 · 13/08/2004 10:40

We want to get our train obsessed 2 year old a wooden train set for his third birthday in December - the kind you can keep adding bits to - like Brio, I think. Does anyone know where we can get one at a good price?

The IKEA basic set is about £6.90, and fits in with everything else, like Tescos and so on.

Lunarsea - I am very interested in Diesel 10 and Lady. Can you send me an email to let me know how much you want for them? Ta

roisin/gingerbear - I'll email you later, but as I posted about the engines for dot1 I think it's only fair to let her have first choice of them, so I'll give her a chance to come back to me first.

I still have left if anyone wants them:

Learning curve Engines (current Thomas range - as in ELC):

Trevor the traction engine (as new except a little loss of the yellow paint on his chimney)

Diesel (a few small paint knocks if you look very closely)

Splatter (some paint rubs at edges)

Dodge (few paint rubs at edges)

I've also got (in slightly more played with condition) original Brio versions of:

Thomas (has a small chip out of the wood on one corner of his roof, and has lost some of the black paint from his roof but the paint has been touched up so not very noticeable)

Dodge (has several paint chips around edges - but paintwork very similar colour to wood so not very noticeable)

Those descriptions make them sound worse than they look - they're generally all pretty good unless you look very closely, but I'd hate anyone think they were being misled, so have tried to be honest about even small flaws.

Would like £4 each for Trevor and Diesel, and £3 each for the others. Plus postage at cost. That's probably less than I could sell them on Ebay for, but if I can sell with no Ebay fees I'm happy to pass on the savings to other mumsnetters. I'll also post at cost, rather than the £2 per engine you see on Ebay a lot.

Also have lots of Thomas videos, some books, and a Thomas rocking chair like this if anyone wants them.

juniper68 - as soon as we get power restored at home I'll get you pics etc of the engine shed. Sorry about delay

I'd love some of the videos LunarSea, ds has been asking for some & I can't be bothered to hunt through charity shops... How much do you want for them? (p.s. I've just built ds a big track & he's played with it BY HIMSELF for 15 minutes which has allowed me to be on mumsnet - definitely worth it!)

Lunarsea, I love the brutally honest descriptions of the engines. If I did similar ones of ours, knock by knock, I'd be here all day! Yours sound practically pristine by comparison.

How is the clean-up going? How are you all feeling today?

hoxtonchick - I have loads of videos. I'll make a list of them for you next time I'm at home and it's light enoughto see (still no electricity at the moment, so it's candlelight only at the moment).

Fio2 - which engines do you want? We've actually got two versions of Dodge (one Learning Curve and one Brio) so presumably you don't want all of them. Postage for 5 should be about £2 I think. Can you CAT me your contact details please so we know where to send engines/payment.

Are Trevor and Diesel/ splatter and dodge still available? If so am keen for ds.

LunarSea · 18/08/2004 12:33

unicorn - once I know which ones Fio2 is having I'll let you know. Should be at least one Dodge available anyway.

I have Cat you, I said I wanted them all except the spare dodge, but I am quite happy to let unicorn have the three and me have the rest, is that okay?

Oh gosh - trying to be fair about this. Fio was first to ask, but that only leaves one for unicorn. How about I say unicorn has the matching pair (Learning curve ones) of Splatter and Dodge, and Fio has the other 4?

otherwise lunarsea...
shall I cat you, or you /me?
do you have paypal, or want a cheque?

Sounds positively Victorian LS.... Frankly, I don't care which videos we have, don't have any Thomas ones atm so ds will be delighted. Maybe I could have 3 or 4? Let me know how much you want for them.

unicorn I can do paypal, but I'd need to add on a bit (about the price of a stamp) to cover the fees. You can cat me, or email on gill[AT]removethisbit.gmx.co.uk (if you can decipher that).

Derfinatley Tesco, who have lots of accessories at pocket money prices too, so you and child can keep adding on. It fits together with brio too.

lunarsea, i dont need the diesel now, so unicorn can have it. His nanny (my mum) has just turned up with diesel! how weird is that?

I'm intreasted in the chair if you still have it. Where are you? Postage might be a little high, we are in birmingham. Not sure what engines are left if any, you can email me at [email protected].

hoxtonchick - the videos we've got include (this isn't an exhaustive list, there are several more I haven't noted down yet)

Biggest Ever Christmas Collection (18 episodes)
Coal and Other Stories (9 episodes)
Trust Thomas and Other Stories (8 episodes)
Escape and Other Stories (10 episodes)
Percy & Harold (8 episodes)
Thomas & Bertie Adventures (5 episodes)
The Deputation and Other Stories (10 episodes) - sleeve insert missing, but tape ok.

Don't want an awful lot for them - say 10p per episode, so the longer tapes are a bit more than the short ones (and 50p flat for the one with no sleeve)?

I'll try to list the rest of them tonight.
