Who here has a VW Touran who can recommend a car seat for a 4yr old?

I've just got an 04 reg one for the nanny, and the old Britax Trio I have (which anyway I think is Not a Good Seat) really doesn't fit.

What seats do you use for 4+ which fit on the outside seats of the middle row? TIA

I know this is a very boring thread but I also know LOTS of you have Tourans! Bump!

well I want to know which is better - a touran 7 seater or scenic grande (7 seater).

PrincessPeaHead · 23/05/2007 23:38

don't know I'm afraid - but I think the Touran has a much better reliability record than the Scenic..

check britax for fitfinder

nicm · 23/05/2007 23:46

not sure about seats for the touran, i have a maxi cosi rodi for my grand scenic and it fits well. maybe try this one?

oh and don't buy a grand scenic, they're really unreliable! not unless you live next door to the renault garage

Zog · 23/05/2007 23:46

Are you happy just with a shell type one that uses a seatbelt?

Zog · 23/05/2007 23:50

Good grief, have just googled car seats and am very out of touch with what is hip and happening in the car seat world .

Suffice to say that my 4 year old uses a slim shell-type booster on the outside seat, next to two normal boosters in our Touran.

PrincessPeaHead · 24/05/2007 14:26

I'm not sure what you mean by shell-like - do you mean just like a britax horizon? I'd prefer one with a back that could be used with a three point harness until he grows out of it IYSWIM. Like the um Evolva. I'll have a look at fitfinder, but I wondered if anyone had personal recommendations of what would really fit well....

Friend used a Concorde Lift iirc . You can try the Britax and Maxi Cosi fit finders but tbh they don't cover all permutations of seat and car as they havenlt tested them so an omission does n't necessarily mean it won't fit, coudl be just they haven't tried it.

Zog · 24/05/2007 14:32

Like a booster with a back that you thread the seatbelt through. We have a slim one that fits perfectly but my sister gave it to me and I've no idea what the make is (so not a lot of help really )

sideways · 24/05/2007 14:38

We used to use the Volkswagen booster seat, which was really good, but have just changed to a Mothercare booster seat, about £30 I think.

LIZS · 24/05/2007 14:39

What do VW recommend (manufacturers usually rebadge standard ones )

nearlythere · 24/05/2007 14:49

evolva fits very well if i remember correctly!

PrincessPeaHead · 24/05/2007 19:35

so a tentative recommendation of the evolva?
come on touran owners, Iknow you are out there

right, one more bump and then I will Give Up, never to start such a dull thread again (promise!)

bump

LIZS · 25/05/2007 13:29

lol mine on a similar subject a few weeks back went the same way !

nearlythere · 25/05/2007 13:40

i would say get down to a local independant shop, they will try all and sundry to get the best fit, halfords will also do it but aren't quite as reliable in their diagnosis!

PrincessPeaHead · 25/05/2007 13:57

tragic isn't it.

maybe I should have started a thread entitled "Tourans are crap and everyone who drives one is a chav"

that would have got some attention I'll bet! Thanks you two

USAUKMum · 26/05/2007 07:52

BTW I can fit the Graco, DS Stage 2 seat and a booster from mothercare across the middle. Also the Graco and mothercare booster fit in the back back seats too. thus able to transport 5 kids .......if you ever wanted to

kinki · 26/05/2007 08:25

Hope I'm not too late for you. I have a Touran and have a 2yo & 7yo. Last year I got Halfords and Mothercare to check the best fitting seats for the Touran and we ended up buying these:

This one for the 7yo, suits 4-12 yrs.

And this one for the 2yo, suits 9mo-4yrs.

I suppose it would depend on the size of your lo which style would be best for you. Also, we bought last year so I wouldn't know if they are current models. (Both seats can go in any of the middle row seats, and I know the hi-liner can go in the back row, sorry can't remember about the other one in the back). Hth.

PrincessPeaHead · 26/05/2007 14:36

brilliant, thank you very much that's really helpful of you both
