Old banger

I haven't yet got my licence but it is imminent. I'm quite old to be starting (38) but I'm overcoming my phobia because I have two small children that need to be able to go out and about!
I'm really not financially well off so I'm looking at a small cheap second hand car as a starter. To be honest I'll probably be a while before I take my kids in it anyway.
I've found one round the corner from me that's 250 and got mot until December.
I'm a total novice. Is this too good to be true? It's only a little 3 door from 1998 but I'm not likely to be going far at any point. The insurance quote is obviously great. Any tips from anyone? Would I be setting up to have a car that won't go or is the mot a good sign?

What car is it?
Make and Model?

At the price range, just make sure the tyres have plenty of tread left, the car stops okay and it doesnt smoke heavily out of the exhaust.

Thankyou. I went to see it and it turned out old banger was a very kind description. The search continues!
