Where would I find a plain white cotton dress for dd?

Dd(5) is in her ballet school show in 4 weeks' time. Costume hire is all arranged by the ballet school. We have just had a "by the way" note form her teacher telling us that all children have to wear white for the finale. Dd has a white T shirt she wears for P.E., but no white skirt or shorts.

I was thinking I could get her a plain white dress and dye it a more practical colour after the show- anyone know where I can get hold of one?

I was thinking white cotton/ broderie anglaise perhaps...a first communion dress or something, but the ones I've found so far are terribly fussy, like little brides dresses.

Any ideas?

Go to ebay and put in white dress 5 - lots of stuff on, like this

Ceolas · 22/05/2007 16:17

Could you make a plain white skirt to go with the t-shirt she has?

Aloha · 22/05/2007 16:18

Or this:
pretty dress

tissy · 22/05/2007 16:18

beautiful, aloha, but if I bought her that she'd never take it off!

Ceolas, could probably make her a skirt, but hope I don't have to!

Ah, but it would make a great party/dressing up dress for afterwards, wouldn't it...if you got it cheap enough...tempt, tempt!

tissy · 22/05/2007 17:45

ah, well, I bid a fiver, but was outbid almost immediately (someone probably wants it as a bridesmaid dress). I'm not bidding any more for something that will end up in the dressing up box!

There's a Next broderie Anglaise one ending tomorrow, which is more the sort of thing I was after

tissy · 22/05/2007 17:50

thanks, tortoiseshell, I always find wading through the next website a strain- I think they really want you to buy a directory, and I'm too tight!

That white dress looks OK...

I've also got a plain white strappy cotton top that you could borrow if you'd prefer that to shite t-shirt

tissy · 22/05/2007 17:57

Thanks Cargirl, that's very sweet of you, but dd would probably stain it with makeup (they really slap it on at ballet shows), or drop Ribena down it- I couldn't take the risk with someone else's property! I'll go with the Ebay idea, and failing that something from Next!

shall keep an eye out, you need someone to check out primark and matalan and tk max places like - cheap & cheerful and don't bother dying it afterwards discover the world of bleach!

goingfor3 · 22/05/2007 18:01

priceybutbeautiful

shonaspurtle · 22/05/2007 18:03

This from La Redoute?

Surfermum · 22/05/2007 18:06

Primark had a white sundress type today. Not sure if that's the sort of thing you're after.

heifer · 22/05/2007 18:27

DD (3) has that Monsoon one which goingfor3 linked to..

Worth every penny (if you can).... looks fantastic.. and not bridesmaidy (she wore it to a wedding recently and church a couple of times since)...
