Cheap runaround for SDD

OH and I have his eldest DD moving down with us as of Monday. Shes managed to get a decent job down here but will need a car for it so we have offered to help with the cost until she’s on her feet down here 6m/1year and can possibly finance her own vehicle.
Or would we be better off having her finance her own vehicle which is newer?
The cars we have looked at have been quite old and under £1500 but the insurance (that she will pay) is extortionate (between 1600 and 2500 a year) for even fiat puntos and small chevrolets.
For newer cars 14/15 plates the insurance is as low as 650.

First car should always be something be cheap so that it won't matter what happens to it. What's the insurance like on a 2006 Toyota Aygo 1.0?

Try an old style Nissan Micra. That was my first car. Insurance was cheap and it was very reliable despite having done 125000 miles. Lasted ages and sold it on after I upgraded

Looked at the aygo, C1 and 107 which are the same cars but different makes and Insurance was at minimum 1500 a year for them it’s bloody wild! She’s already had a car and has 1 year ncd but it was a PCP and went back a few months ago now. She’s looking at buying a car herself using hire purchase as it seems the best option incase the job doesn’t work out so she can sell it on reasonably quickly! Looking at a 16 plate corsa Insurance is 850 for the year

Consider leasing a Dacia Sandero 1.0.
You can lease them very cheap, they are group 1 insurance band and give you effectively 3 years of hassle free motoring as the car is covered by a warranty plus the 1.0 engine is economical.
