Renault clio - Ikea wardrobe?

Going to ikea today to hopefully pick up a wardrobe. Suddenly thought, it may not fit in my car...

I have a 2007 renault clio 5 door.

Wardrobe is flatpack 187cm longest point and 68cm widest.

Has anyone done it?

No chance, unless you're willing to have it poking out of an open boot tethered with straps.

We got one of their flat pack 2 seat sofas once which was around the same length, couldn't get the boot to close in a Renault methane scenic.

They do have a delivery service where you but in store then take it to a delivery hatch and they bring it to you next day.

a Renault methane scenic

Had you eaten a particularly strong curry the previous evening Grin

Can you recline the passenger seat all the way back and put one end of the box in the footwell? I've done that before in a similar sized car.

Nearest I have done is a malm double bed frame in a 2017 Vauxhall Corsa - that was a tight fit with the frame lying on top of the passenger seat head rest, above my head.

I imagine a wardrobe is much longer than a bed frame and a 2007 Renault Clio smaller so I would be nervous if I was you!!

Get a measuring tape and someone to help and try and work out if it'll fit. It doesn't sound likely but if it's just the driver going and you can lay the passenger seat right down it just might be possible?
We've always managed picking up a lot of stuff at once but that's Vauxhall Zafira's for you. Rather than getting delivery (£37 makes buying Ikea for the bargain pointless), see if you can find a mate with a large car to help. Then it'll just cost the price of a bottle of wine, Chicago or flowers and fuel.

No chance unless you have no passenger and have it hanging out the boot

Not a hope. We enjoy sitting in the restaurant at Ikea watching people trying to fit improbably large packages into too small cars!

chatwoo · 03/06/2018 10:53

No chance I'm afraid. Have done this numerous times in bigger cars and it's a struggle. You'll need to take someone with you - if you are already not doing so. It's a lot of push and shove to get the bloody things into position... Fitting that second person into the car then presents a different problem!

**chocs. Buying Chicago would be a bit much.

I think your only chance is by tethering the boot lid over the top.

You might get it over the reclined passenger seat and onto the dashboard but it’s not going to be safe. I would rethink or find a friend with a bigger car! Delivery is about £35
