I live abroad in a sunny climate and was wondering whether I should have sunglasses for ds? He's 7 mths old. Are they just a gimmick and is he likely to keep them on or not??

yes you should, i recommend babybanz too as they have a strap to keep them on and sit quite sungly on their faces

They are not just a gimmick you are protecting your ds eyes from uv rays. The English climate is so that the need for sunglasses is less so baby don't normal wear them but go to hotter, sunnier countries and you will see lots of babys wearing them.
As for getting him to wear them that a different thing, but mostly it just take a little time for them to get use to them.
Babybanz are the best I know of for babys.

I got some for my baby because when we went out he'd squint and whinge because he couldn't see with the sun in his eyes. I got some really cute ones made by Julbo. I got them from minimoonsailors, they also have a detachable strap. He didn't seem impressed at first when I put them on him but he seemed to realise that they helped him to see, because once he'd been wearing them a few minutes he didn't touch them at all and didn't moan once all the way round the shops.
