A really need a new upright vacuum. My present one is 15 years old! It still looks good but is hopeless at picking up small bits of fluff from socks etc.

I have a honey coloured carpet so require something with good power. Also have a lot of hard floor area so must cope with that as well.
Is the Dyson anygood have heard mixed report?

Thanks

we have an ancient Dyson inherited from my mum
it is heavy and noisy but it really, really works
used it through 2 building projects, now on its 3rd and still coping with lumps of plaster etc as well as general dust / dirt etc (not especially good for long hair though)
it's at least 10yo but Dyson are v good for spares (have replaced filters twice, also fan belt thing after DH hoovered a 3in screw )

I am on my first Dyson. It's great at cleaning, but incredibly heavy, and we have lots of stairs in our house.

Mine almost pulls me along, have had all sorts of vacuum cleaners over the years and this is by far the best.

Not always easy to find but John Lewis stocks them.

NOT a dyson....I HATE mine...

rabbleraiser · 14/05/2007 11:39

The Dyson is a fantastic hoover for pet hairs, etc. Once you get used to it, it's superb.

That said, it's noisy and rattly on hard floors ... I generally use the attachments for those areas.

Well the motor on our Dyson blew on Saturday- well outside the warranty period... I rang customer services, and they said an engineer would be able to come out today. He arrived bang on time, and fixed the thing for free (even though out of warranty) AND gave us a new stair tool, as ours was cracked and dh had "repaired" it with sellotape.

Hats off to their customer service department!

I loooove my Dyson!

Washersaurus · 14/05/2007 15:09

I love my dyson - it is fab on the carpets and rugs aswell as on the solid floors, it is also fantastic at removing the cat hair from all around my abode! I also use it to reach the cobwebs on my ceilings with the handy reach bit etc etc.

We purchased this one after DH broke the first one (given to us 2nd hand) vacuuming up brick dust when we were redecorating

Oh and I empty it straight into the compost bin too , how fab is that?
