How to choose a family car?! Please help!

I can't believe I'm posting this but the time in my life has arrived where I need to know about cars.

My tiny single girl Ford Ka is no longer fitting the bill and sadly I need something a bit more practical. Thing is, know nothing about cars or where to start. Can someone PLEASE recommend a website where you can maybe put in some criteria and it tells you what you're looking for, or suggest a car that might be suitable. Needs to be:

*big enough to cope with 6'4" DP and one (hopefully more soonish!) baby.
*enough space to fit tents and baby crap into without causing massive arguments between DP and me
*economical to run
*5 doors
*as environmentally sounds as it is possible to be...(I know, I'm not asking for much!)

ANy advice desperately needed, or tell me what you've got and whether it works!

Many TIA.

my dh was fine in a scenic - plus there's loads of room for a pushchair and other bags. It might be too big a car as it has three seats in the back.

Try and get one with Isofix so you can have the safest baby seats.
I used to have an Astra which I really liked (DH is 6'4").

Have also got a scenic which I really like.

Try looking on what car or parkers for reviews/advice.

kids are banned from eating or drinking in her

the honda and toyota hybrid ones look really good.

we'd get one, but they don't do em in a size big enough for 3 car seats in the back yet it seems. enough space for a family of 4 though, easy.

We just sold Mini and bought Fiat Multipla. Tiny to Enormous in a bit of a jump but we absolutely love it. Has three seats in front and back (we wanted to sit in a row with the new arrival when he/she comes) and seats in back come out for camping, bikes, general adventuring. But actually not that big (i.e. not too long) and very easy to drive.

am amazed at how easy mine is to park and turn, compared to the one one i have been driving
