Getting gas boilers serviced - how often?

I know the official advice is every 12 months, but do people actually do that? I'm just wondering if its neccesary or a marketing ploy by British Gas.

We have ours done every 12 mths but suspect we are victim of marketing ploy - just too lazy to cancel cover (and know that the second we do, it'll blow up or we'll all die instantly of carbon monoxide poisoning...) How old is your boiler? Probably more important with elderly ones.

Well we don't have to pay to have ours serviced as we live in a HA house, but they still do them every 12 mths like clockwork.

Its 3 nearly 3 years - never had t serviced since installation as convinced myself it was new so wouldn't need it. Also have a carbon monoxide alarm.

I suppose I ought to get it done sometime soon though
