ds's birthday next month. He has been enjoying playing on our old playstation 1 but would like no 2 so that he can play the new games (Cars etc). I am not going to get him a PS3 because it is waaay too expensive but am wondering if we should stretch to the cost of a wii. They look more fun.
Opinions please!

Not sure but the thing that swung it for us was the amount of games available for PS2

MiddleFingeredPhantom · 11/05/2007 17:33

I'm another one for PS2, ds 6 also has Wii but hardly ever plays it.

wurlywurly · 11/05/2007 17:34

we love our ps2. Ds1 and dh both have psp and dont think they are as good as their ps2s

MiddleFingeredPhantom · 11/05/2007 17:34

Ps ds is playing cars now! Also be warned buy some ear plugs because the tedious muzac goes through your brain after a bit.

wurlywurly · 11/05/2007 17:35

we have cars as well(but on psp)

MiddleFingeredPhantom · 11/05/2007 17:37

What's psp?

wurlywurly · 11/05/2007 17:37

the hand held portable one.

MiddleFingeredPhantom · 11/05/2007 17:37

Doh!

wurlywurly · 11/05/2007 17:38

psp

MiddleFingeredPhantom · 11/05/2007 17:39

Just as an aside, one of those young guys that works in the game shops told us that PS3 isn't all that!

cupcakes · 11/05/2007 17:41

I quite like the ps2 because I should be able to get Tombraider for it. Does it play ps1 games?

wurlywurly · 11/05/2007 17:42

yeah you can still play the ps1 games on it, you have to save it onto ps1 memory card tho.

wurlywurly · 11/05/2007 17:49

ps2 for sale

SoupDragon · 11/05/2007 18:19

DSs (8 & 6) love their Wii. And some games involve some degree of physical effort rather than sitting on their bums. It's fabulous.

cupcakes · 11/05/2007 18:26

That's what appeals to me, Soupy.

We've got both and they are fab in different ways, but it your case I'd go for the PS2 (more games, can get a lot of them cheaply or 2nd hand, and is backwards compatible with PS1) and maybe think of getting the Wii in addition for christmas or next years birthday.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2007 18:29

Ooooh, the other thing I love about the Wii is that you can check to see how long they've been playing. I caught DS1 out the other week when I worked back from the current time using how long he'd been playing and discovered he'd got up at 5:45 am.

cupcakes · 11/05/2007 18:31

that's dedication.

Shortly after he got it I was woken by thunps from downstairs at 4am and found not burglars but a 8 yo boy practising his air bending on the Avatar Wii game

iota · 11/05/2007 18:33

I think you need to confiscate the handset overnight, Soupy

SoupDragon · 11/05/2007 18:34

Oh believe me, he won't be getting up at 4am to play it again!

cupcakes · 11/05/2007 18:37

ooh, I want to be a bender too!!

(ds big aang fan)
