Grade II house and baby gates

DH and I have just bought a Grade II listed house, and we're moving soon with our 2 year old DD. We have no idea what to do about baby gates!

We have BabyDan retractable/fixed baby gates in our current house. We adore these and would love to use these in the new house. But we're worried about drilling holes in the Grade II listed plaster walls and/or bannisters. We're also worried about using pressure gates on the stairs and plaster, since I've read they can bend or misshape the woodwork and plaster.

Is drilling and later refilling holes in a historic house to use our BabyDan gates really not that big of a deal?

Or should we switch over to some kind of pressure gate? If so, does anyone have good pressure gates you'd recommend for a historic house?
