Bumbo and the 'rubber ring' not working - what else can I buy to help baby sit?

Ideas anyone? I had seen a mamas an papas support cushion that I thought I might try but now I can't find it. The bumbo isn't working because he's now at a stage where he needs to develop the strength to sit himself but the ing isn't working because he got long legs and h moment there's something against his feet he kicks and arches his back.

He absolutely fine when sat betwwen my legs on the floor but no v-shaped cushions I can find are supportive enough.

Help! I can't sit on the floor all day!

how old is he?

liquidclocks · 06/05/2007 14:30

He's 7 months... I think if he was number one I'd just drop everything for a month or so but I have DS1 too - with him I do just remeber sitting with him loads at this stage.

WHat about putting him in one of those oval laundry baskets....? Worked like a charm for my DD!

kittypants · 06/05/2007 14:33

but remember all different.i cant remember sitting but my first 2 walked by 12 months.youngest was 15 months.which seemed really late.

sorry im not helping at all.id personally carry on with bumbo and ring but thats just my opinion!

I used to lean DS against the sofa and stick cushions either side of him, which kept him happy for ages.

Just wanted to say thanks for the ideas! Sorry I disappeared, had a spur of the moment short trip away to my parents - where we tried him in their hightchair and it worked like a dream so he's sat in that now!

We sit DS on a rug surrounded by pillows, but he can sit upright pretty well now.

Glad you found a solution but just another idea - i got a widgey cushion for bf and dd sits in that. It's more crescent rather than v shaped so more snug around her.

hmm, 'widgey cushion' sounds interesting - will google. Thanks for all ideas - Muminfife, he adores swimming but sadly my nearest warm pool is 30 miles away so we don't get to go very often.

(if anyone feels like donating enough cash to Lancaster city council to keep our swimming pool warm enough do feel free... )

is he happy on his tummy? dd2 didn't sit unsupported until about 10months ish, but crawled much earlier as she spent a lot of time on her tummy.

dd3 is 7m now and no where near sitting yet, but v happy on tummy, and like you, I can't sit there and have her betweeen my legs like I did with first! She arches back out of bumbo now too.....so meal times are short affairs for her
g luck!

Personally I would wait until they can do it themselves instead of trying to prop them up all the time. They develop the strength anyway.

We used a ring shaped doggy pillow bed with a very low soft edge, it was more to provide a safe haven for the LO when her little brother was running about, not to aid her in learning to sit though, all in good time.
