Do babies and leather sofas mix? about to buy from sofasofa.co.uk - any good?

Im about to buy a sofa bed for our living room for when baby number 2 arrives in October and DH needs to sleep (we currently have an 8mo as well!).
Two questions. I was about to buy a loose covers sofabed so I can wash them when they undoubtedly get grubby. However Ive realised I can afford a leather sofabed. But Ive no idea how well leather withstands the effects of babies and toddlers - does it just age gracefully or will it be wrecked in weeks?

Secondly, has anyone bought from sofasofa.co.uk before - is it any good? Its nowhere near me to check out.

Ta!

We like furniture village - they are always doing half price sofa deals. We have two mega comfy sofas with good back support great when breastfeeding, baby falling asleep on shoulder etc... They were under £1500 in total for a two and a three seater leather sofa.

We got ours from sofa workshop. They are often a bit expensive, so you have to lie in wait and pounce when they have a sale. Think we ended up paying about £800 but it was originally well over £1000. BIL got one there quite recently (also leather) for £600ish I think. MIL also bought one there. All brown leather ones.

I had swatches from them a couple of years ago (though didn't order). I really liked the look of one but we stopped off at the b'ham showroom on the way somewhere and the quality was pretty naff - the showroom models didn't look great and if you can't get that right....
They only had two shops, and as the b'ham one has closed, I think it is reasonable that there is only one shop/address. They are mainly mail/internet order I think so wouldn't have loads of premises.
They do have shows in London every six months or so where they have the whole range to view.

no i didn't go to court. dfs sent out a bloke who said that there was nothing wrong with it. I did report them sot trading standards along the line of the fact that the suite was not "fit for purpose" and we were missold. As it was outside 6 months since we bought the suite, the onus was on us to prove that they were responsible. I then spoke to the manager, who came out to see us at home, and admitted they weren't quite right. The bought the suite back for £200 less than we had paid for it, and I had already claimed on the insurance for £400 for a biro mark on the armchair so I didn't mind. We then arranged a day to go in and see the manager and he personally ensured that we got the correct suite for our needs. They then rang me on a weekly basis for an update of when it would be delivered. They were pretty good in the end really.. Are you havong probs with DFS?

allieBongo · 07/05/2007 09:31

this is what we had. As you can see, it wasn't cheap, and we had a 3 seater, 2 seater. chair and pouffe. It was this colour originally, but white in some patches when it went. pile of ole shite

allieBongo · 07/05/2007 09:33

this is what I have now with stain protection with a 5yr warranty

i didn't have to in the end, but they sent me template letters etc. Give them a call, they can tell you where you stand

Furniture village have Aspen 2 seat brown leather sofa for £649 - 180cm width. We have one and it is super comfy, though they do not have a sofa bed in that range.

Other ranges have sofa beds.

we also have a habitat leather sofa and is great - wipes up v well - I don't use babywipes, just a damp flannel
you do get what you pay for though

lyrabelacqua · 09/05/2007 00:16

We've had our ikea leather sofas for 18 months now and they still look new. When they get dirty a baby wipe sorts them out in minutes. We had fabric before and were forever washing them and the colours fade if you wash too often. I'll definitely stick with leather till my two are at uni
