Wanting to replace our car, and the cars that take our fancy are -

Picasso
New shape Megane
Megane Scenic

the only things that makes the scenic and picasso more favourable is the hight and the back seats and foot wells

Anybody got any of these who can give me any advice ?

I test-drove a Megane when I bought my new car, and I would recommend that you test drive it on a bad road as I found it very twitchy on anything except a very smooth surface.

I haven't tried a Picasso.

We hired a Picasso and I thought the turning circle was terrible. Try test driving it in a car park (seriously).

whispers< I wouldn't buy a french car

I have a laguna at the moment and have been v. impressed with it, but its just getting a little old and has loads of miles on it.

Anyone else got any views on any of these 3 cars ?

I have a Picasso and I really like it. I especially like the digial dashboard which at the time the Scenic didn't have. The new ones do have that now. If I could afford a new car I would buy the new shape scenic as I love the shape (and the electric blue colour !!) They are much of a muchness. I would test drive them all. I have a diesel and my parents have a 1.8 petrol - you can tell the difference. They bought theirs after liking mine so much.

We bought our Picasso nearly 3 years ago when we knew we'd be coping with 3 children. It's been a fantastic car. The main things we wanted were:

An mpv type car, but with three full sized seats in the back. Lots we saw had a poor sized middle back seat. The Picasso's seats are all the same and all have diagonal seatbelts, not just a lapbelt for the middle seat.

A decent sized boot, which the Picasso has.

You don't have to stoop low into the car to do up childrens carseats. In many cars, by the time you've done up 3, your back is ready to collapse!

Dh and I are both tall, and there is plenty of legroom in the front for us and in the back too for the children.

One bad point - the front windscreen in the corners has a bit of a blindspot where the 'pillar' is. You do get used to it, but even now it caches me out sometimes.

tinygang is right re not bending to get kids in. My DH is tall with bad back and really hated the getting in and ut in our previous toyota corolla. I didn't haev a problem but yes, the picasso is easier. It was hobson's chocie for us as we didn't want a 7-seater (only 5 of us, like) but cannot get big car seats in regular 5-seater as we all know. Not mad on french cars either (used to have a renault 5) but at least you can get a good price on the picasso. Also the boot is good, just went on hols and luggage, 3-wheeler, backpack, windbreak, beach tent, cricket set, Nemo ball etc etc all went in no prob!

the motoring section in the Telegraph on a saturday is really good for giving advice when you're stuck with which car to choose. You can e mail them your details (ie, how many children, what ti'll be used for etc), your requirements, your budget and the cars you like and they'll give you impartial advice on the best option. e mail address is

[email protected]

I've e mailed them twice with different questions and always had an answer back by return.

I've got a Picasso oo and can echo all the things said below. Also has great secret storage and is fantastic for bringing back wine if you go to France, we managed to fit over 50 bottles in all the starage compartments ( obviously all gone now!)

In saying that replacing it next month, and not getting another one. Fancy a Kia Sedona instead.
