Should I throw a five year old mattress out?

Please advise.

I've just got hold of a new, pretty crap quality mattress from Argos (for free - someone didn't need it).

This is to replace old mattress, which was a very good quality Jaybe one.

I just figured that as it is five years old and as DS managed to get wee through the waterproof sheet about seven or eight times, I might as well chuck it away and use the new one.

But when I actually saw them together and saw quite how crap the new one is, I had doubts. Should I try and clean the old one up a bit and keep it for a couple more years, or is 5 years old enough to justify getting rid of it, knowing I'll need a new one in a couple of years because the Argos one is so rubbish?

What would you do?

Oh no, keep the old wee'd-on one, C (that was hard to punctuate - weed just looks wrong )

Pass the new crappy one on again. You can get a fitted cover for the old one to hide the stains (I'm assuming it doesn't smell )

i agree with wendy

So 5 years isn't really old enough to chuck a mattress out, we think?

We do.

Or not in exchange for a crappy new one - if you can get someone to give you a good new one, that would be perfectly acceptable.

Sell the crappy new one.
Keep your old one.
Spend money from crappy one on good quality matress protector.

agree with mrcandmre, def worth keeping the better quality one and getting a decent protector for it (perhaps even get it prof steam cleaned) using the money you make from selling the new Arogs one. Good mattresses worth looking after, much harder to sleep well on rubbish mattress IMO...
