Can anyone suggest a good manufacturer of baby life jackets? I bought one that was quite useless (was made in Malaysia and called a buoyancy device, but it didn't have enough head support).

Thanks, Lorien

We have one for ds but he was around 18 months when we got it. If you phone a local chandery (I think thats what is called place that sales all boat stuff) and they will go through the different types you can get. We have got one just for going on my mum and dads canel boat.

Yes, a chandlery sells that sort of equipment. We also had one when our son was about 18 months and we took him sailing. You can get them by mail order I think if you're not near a chandlery. I might have a catalogue somewhere. They're not cheap - we just spent £60 on one for our 3 year old. At least he can go sailing with his dad - I'd rather stay on land and read a book!

Thanks Fionn thats what I meant. I think the one for ds, bearing in mind it was just for the canels, was about £29.00

Thanks for your help -- do you remember the brand name at all? The life jacket is mainly for sailing but also for going in boats in general. As we do quite a bit of that, I don't really mind spending quite a lot of cash, as long as its a life jacket that works ie, its got full head support and also attaches around underneath the crotch.
Thanks, Lorien

We bought one for ds when he was just under 2. It's by Typhoon, has a strap under the crotch & fairly good head support, about £30 I think it was. However when we took him out on the boat he wouldn't sit still so we're waiting till he gets a bit older. We'll probably try again soon if my nerves can stand it,

Bettys,.. yes thats the next problem -- how to get ds to stay still for a few seconds on the boat. My father-in-law says he used to tie my husband to the mast when he was little so he didn't do anything too looney. But that does seem a little drastic....
Thanks for the advice on "typhoon" and Helly Hansen" jackets, Lorien
