No clue about shoe sizes

I've got no idea how children's shoe sizes work - vague memories from childhood that they go up to 13 and then start again at 1 or something equally weird. But someone has kindly given me a pair of shoes for my ds with numbers 3 and 19 on the sole. ?? any clues? DS is 6 months at the moment.

3 is probably the UK size and 19 the european size??
Not sure its a good idea to put your DS into them though, I think you are supposed to have them fitted, even if you think the pair you have fit

Unlikely they will fit a 6 month old. You should wait until he's walking to put proper shoes on him, but other than that I think it's all a bit of hype from the shoe stores (like Clark's) to get you to buy shoes from them instead of the cheap places like ASDA. I'm sure if you remember to check that your ds's shoes fit him every few weeks, it'll be fine.

3 is roughly equivilent to 12-18 mths, but it really depends on the size of your DSs feet! My DD is 8.5 mths and wears size 3/12-18 mths.

Just make sure there is loads of room inside, and I think the general advice is don't put shoes (or socks!) on them unless you have to, because their feet are very soft and easy to deform. You can't get shoes 'fitted' by clarks or whoever until they've been walking steadily at least 6 weeks.

Personally, DD doesn't wear anything in doors and I only put stuff on outside if the weather merits it.

Clarks are normally pretty good about not selling you shoes if you don't need them so they probably wouldn't even measure your DS's feet acnebride. Does he need shoes? My DS2 (11m) hardly even wears socks - he's barefoot boy!

My DD started walking at 10 months and was measured at 2.5 size. She was probably about 15 months or so when she went into a size 3.

I did have some soft shoes for DD before that though as she was cruising and walking holding my hands from about 5/6 months. As it was summer she was doing this out of doors, and I wasn't happy with her having bare feet in some places. Inside she was, and still is, a bare foot girl. As am I!

Many thanks all. No i'm not putting him in shoes yet but was mystified by these numbers, also was thinking that i might ask for shoes as presents cos they cost so much, so wanted to give guidance! Guess it's probably a poor idea. Great to have an idea about these shoes - I'll stick them in the loft for now then.
