Can anyone recommend a really slimline, pocket sized digital camera?

We have a big digital camera (a Fuji something or other) which is great and the picture quality is really good but it is styled like an SLR so is quite bulky. It's dh's birthday next month and I'm thinking of buying him a small digital camera which he can just slip in his pocket.

Any 'best buys'? I'm thinking no more than £150.

Just bumping this up for you as I'm also interested. Flying to the USA next week, so hoping to get a bargain

Thanks, Cristina. I will keep bumping!

I haven't used it myself but you don't often go wrong with a Nikon

Dh bought me a HP Photosmart digital camera for my birthday a couple of years ago. It's fab and also does video clips. Sorry, don't know how much it was though.

Just wanted to add this list of Ultra-compact cameras

Thanks for those - I'll go and check out the reviews.

we have a panasonic lumix one and I would really recommend it. They will have a higher spec now but it has been a great buy.

I adore my little Ixus - it's less pixels hence not such good quality as the big SLR types but is fine unless you want to eg blow the prints up to A3.

I read reviews all afternoon and finally settled on a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 (was within my price range, 7.2 megapixels, very compact and got really good write-ups)...ordered it and then realised dh's birthday is just over a week off (how did that creep up on me so fast?!) I hope it comes in time.

Thanks to all those who posted.

Ditto Dr MMcM. Bought for dh. Read a review criticising it because all the automatic settings are so good that it doesn't encourage you to play about with it. All you have to do is point and click. Was a bit of a no-brainer after that.

we have an olympus mju waterproof to 3 m and drop proof from 1.5m, it records a snapshot of sound when you take a pic(optional) which can be fun, has lots of photo options, and can take video(not great quality ) but okay, we really like it

Aefondkiss · 24/04/2007 20:31

oh and i know I am too late but it is very slim line, fits neatly in a slim pocket in my handbag, so I always have it with me
