Why can't I get my shitty MP3 player to play?

I've just bought a copy ipod shuffle from ebay. I know, I know this is probabaly my first mistake. Anyway I am new to this Mp3 malarky so I downloaded a few tracks from the HMV website saved them in My Music as real player files them dragged and dropped them into the file that popped up when the Mp3 player was plugged in. Yippee I thought that was easy but when I try to play them in the mp3 player nothing happens. Any ideas?

No it doesn't need software. How do I save them as MP3's?

OK, I've downloaded itunes, downloaded Fatboy slim (MP3 player is for running)as mp3 files, put them on dodgy ipod and still nothing. Buggered if I know!

I think I might send it back but I'm sure it's because I've done something wrong. I've just taken another faulty MP3 back to argos, the display didn't wark and again nothing would play. I can't be that unlucky surely?

I've emailed the guy I bought it from to see if I can send it back. What a mug I am!
