Are more expensive school trousers worth the money? Let's complete this survey to inform ourselves next year.

Age of child: brand: no of prs bought in Sep: current condition (marks out of 5)

Ds1 (9): M&S: 2 pr: 4 - extremely good
DS2 (7): Adams: 2 pr: 2 - quite tatty - 1pr has holes in, the other very worn and scuffed.

DS1(5) M&S 2 pairs 5/5, look like new, even where they were taken up and let down. And he indulges in very rough play. Would definately recommend (hoping M&S will do 3 for 2 like last year)
Ditto shirts - Tesco = old rags, M&S non-iron, still going strong.

saltire · 17/04/2007 14:49

DS1 and DS2 Asda 2pr each, 4/5. Even through countless football games in playground

southeastastra · 17/04/2007 14:50

ds(5) freemans (pack of two) wearing very well!

ds(13) tesco, but he wrecks every pair after a couple of months

bozza · 17/04/2007 14:53

Hmm interesting.

DS (6): Adams: 2 pairs: 5/5, look like new really, teflon coating works well. Much better than Asda ones I bought last year.

Funny how differently I have found them to you roisin.

sniff · 17/04/2007 14:55

DS (8)asda 3 pairs 5/5 non iron ones

look like new countless scrabbling on floor have been done to them

tortoiseSHELL · 17/04/2007 15:03

Ds1 M&S 3 pairs of the £4 trousers. - excellent condition still. Last year's just about did the year (allowing for shorts in hot weather).

ElenyaTuesday · 17/04/2007 15:10

Ds1 and Ds2 (10 & 7): M&S 3 pairs each - still looking good. A mighty achievement for Mr Rough & Tumble (ds2)!!!

Janh · 17/04/2007 15:15

DS2 started in Y7 in Sept 04 with 3 pairs of second-hand age 12 Teflon trousers from M&S. He has grown about a foot, plays football in them all winter, not a hole in sight and he is still wearing them (at half-mast ) so I think they must win!

katierocket · 17/04/2007 15:25

M&S - very good, look like new despite very rough play

NormaSnorks · 17/04/2007 15:29

DS1 - 2 prs M&S Wool mix /teflon trousers - 4.5 /5 - still hang well with front creases
but 1 pr 'cheap' teflon/polyester M&S 3/5 - look mishapen a bit and have lost creases

DS2 3 pairs M&S wool mix/teflon - 5/5 - excellent, AND he spends a lot of time on his knees!

Bink · 17/04/2007 15:40

ds (just 8, size of 9/10 year old): M&S, 3 prs - the special adjustable waist ones (get by mail order). Brilliant - the only flaw an experimental snip by ds (testing some scissors, I ask you) in the thigh of one of them - snip not really a problem but my attempt at patching is a Disgrace.

Have just bought him some M&S shorts of same style for this term - £5 each, seems good value!

M&S shirts too - the all-cotton ones - going strong.

cremolafoam · 17/04/2007 15:41

haven't got a ds but
dd's shirts and skirt:
white shirts primark bought sept 06 all good and clean and as new
white shirts tesco bought december 06 all crap and grey and ragged
grey school skirt Woolworth(ladybird) bought easter 06 washed well and is still in good nick.
grey school pleated skirt M&S bought dec 06
gone woolly and knobbly.

laughingduck · 17/04/2007 15:47

Ds1 (6): M&S Wool/Teflon Mix: 3 pairs - still looking OK but have shiny patch on one knee only but I think it must be down to ds's treatment of them tbh. Other than that still smart and crease still in etc.

beckybrastraps · 17/04/2007 15:48

Ds, 5, John Lewis (sounds fancy but cheaper than M&S), 2 pairs, wearing very well.

PersonalClown · 17/04/2007 15:52

Ds (5) Adams long length 7 year old .
The only ones I could find in his leg length with adjustable waists. He's a skinny little toad.
Anyone know of any others that do adjustable waists at that age? I know our Asda don't till 9 years.

saltire · 17/04/2007 16:42

Bink, when DS2 was in Primary 1, every single pair of trousers, polo shirt and sweatshirt had "snips" in them, where he was "just testing the scissors mum"

Gosh! We are all still very smart and well-presented this year aren't we? Last year their trousers were little better than rags (cheapos from Asda).

Ds2 had Adams trousers this year because they were the only ones I could find that fit. They have longleg sizes and adjustable waists (adjusted to the minimum) as he's a skinny shrimp.

Now how can we persuade M&S to do trousers for skinny children?

Yes Roisin that would be jolly handy. ds1's are M&S age 6 which I presume means 5-6 but he will be 7 in Oct. He also has to have a belt on them.

Furball · 17/04/2007 19:02

Age 5/6 = 2 x M & S non iron adjustable waist 1 x OK ish and 1 x ds fell over on the pavement and put a hole in the knee so bought

1 x John Lewis look awful really bobbley on the bottom

Millarkie · 17/04/2007 19:03

Only bought M&S trousers and they are fine - in fact, we accidently left a pair of last years trousers in ds's drawer and only noticed last week (they were a bit tight on him) so they've been through 5 terms and still look fine.
They are the teflon ones.

Tesco polo shirts looked like rags well before christmas - bought some expensive ones from school shop because ds wanted ones with logo on and they are still going strong - ds has grown out of them though.

WendyWeber · 17/04/2007 19:26

Millarkie, DS2's have been through 8 terms and are still OK (he has got thinner luckily!)

hippipotami · 18/04/2007 10:05

Ds (7): Next: 2 pairs: 3-4 (slight fading/thinning on knees, otherwise fab)
