I was thinking of this but will happily take advice if people can find fault with this or point me in the direction of something cheaper

Argos and Homebase used to do a great wooden one with a blue canvas roof that was cheap and looked much nicer than the plastic ones but I haven't seen it this year

will keep my eyes open

have you tried freecycle? worth keeping an eye out on there... people outgrow these things then they have to get rid somehow...

If you want cheaper, go to a shop selling fridge-freezers (Iceland or somewhere) or giant tellies and blag a couple of huge boxes. You can make a fantastic house out of those, and they're more robust than the plastic ones. Get the children to draw the design on, then you do the bit with the stanley knife to make the windows and doors. They can paint it too, and pin up bits of fabric. If you want it to last a slightly longer, you can even varnish it, but we've never gone that far.

I have tried freecycle and none going. Loathe to put a wanted add up as there seem to be so many for all sorts of things.

I'm not that creative. Love frogs idea of homemade but have a feeling it just wouldnt cut it with DD. Plus I'm keen for it to last a few years and be used by DD2 as well
