Decent digital cameras

I'm sick of my digital camera and trying to get a decent picture of the girls.

I took a fab pic of my DD looking beautiful and serene next to a load of flowers under a beautiful tree on Sunday.
When I looked back at it, she'd left the frame and it was just a picture of some flowers!

And the amount of missed smiles and kisses are just plain annoying.

So, have decided to splash out and get one that looks like the old SLR's but is digital and has no delay.

Can you recommend one?

we have had our Canon Ixus (4 mega pixels) for 2 years and it is brilliant. Good battery life, small, good zoom, easy to upload piccies onto PC and you can take videos as well ... we bought ours on Ebay (from a shop IYSWIM) and it came straight from Japan so we saved some money ...

hitchcock · 10/04/2007 15:12

we are buying a kodak one its about 135.00 with a 1gb memory card has the benfit of a view window so when battery is low you can still use camera

TeeCee · 10/04/2007 15:14

Taylormama - is it this one?

I was thinking more along these lines

I have a Canon EOS 400D - has no time lag and can take loads of pics one after another. I love it.

It's pricey though at about £500-£600 about six months' ago (may be cheaper now though).

TeeCee · 10/04/2007 15:16

That looks nice nonickanme

oh - you need a "proper" camera LOL!!! Sorry just read your post properly about SLRs. A friend of mine has a Nikon and swears by it - i think they are a well respected brand ... google some reviews of it ...

MrsBadger · 10/04/2007 15:19

DH is saving up for the digital Eos as well
he is a huge Canon fan and has several 35mm Eoses (Eoss? Ei?) and claims it will save learning where all the buttons etc are on a different make.

zippitippitoes · 10/04/2007 15:34

olympus e500

try and get a pack with battery and both lenses

should be able to get it for about £450 or less

Clary · 10/04/2007 15:36

We've got a canon Teecee and it's the best thing ever, cannot recommendit enough. It's an EOS but not sure of the model, no doubt superceded (and cheaper) by now anyway as we've had it 2 years I think. It cost about £5-600

Clary · 10/04/2007 15:37

Lol at MrsB's DH not needing to learn where all the buttons are, true tho.

cazzybabs · 10/04/2007 15:40

We also have the canon EOS (well ours is a little older the 350) but it does not have any lag time. I love it, but there are times when the autofocus settings focus on something other than the thing you think it is focusing on (que much giggling from dh - not again CB!!!).

However, it does get good reviews and dh who knows about these things ratess it. We also have a super big compace flash card (we can take over a 1000 photos - bloody brilliant! when you are as rubbish a photographer as I clearly am

here are some photos I have taken with it but they are compressed so qulaity is lost

TeeCee · 10/04/2007 15:51

Thank you.

The one I lonked to - apparently lots of the paps use it. Anyone know anythiong about that one.

Will look into the canon as well.

canons all the way here!

Have an EOS 20D

and an Ixus which dd1 broke last week.

Both fab at what they do though.

MrShev · 10/04/2007 16:53

Another big up to the EOS - very quick, awesome camera. Don't bother with compacts - they just don't have the space for decent lens...

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/04/2007 17:08

I have an Olympus 720 as it is waterproof and shock proof. Brilliant for a clumsy woman with 2 kids and an oaf of a DH.

With this one you can shoot and select and it keeps taking until you stop pressing the button

Crocky · 11/04/2007 00:25

I have just bought the 400d. Am a terrible photographer but am having great fun with it and getting some good results.

Hilllary · 11/04/2007 00:28

I have a sony DVD handycam, really really good investment cost about £800 but well worth it. It takes pictures that you can actually see the pores in the skin. Amazing

I also have an IT.Works digital camera, takes lovely pictures

Clary · 11/04/2007 22:51

OK ours is the Canon EOS 300D, DH says it cost about £500 but a 10 mill pixel (ie bigger) one would be about £450 now.

theprecious · 13/04/2007 14:42

I've got this one and it is fab! It is small but takes great photos, has good lense, really easy to use, and a comparativly wide angle lense which is good for indoor shots.

fab fab fab
