Which colour wrap do you like the most?

Really wanted a Calin Bleu gauze wrap but with my baby due within the next 4 weeks I can´t wait for them to get it together (were expecting new stock in March, then beginning of April, now mid April etc etc). Have found this alternative but they are all a lot more patterned than I would have chosen, especially as dh is keen for it to be neutral so he can also wear it.
NOTE. The ´Freya colour´ looks like it should be cream and pretty plain but a close up here shows a slightly different and more - blah - colour
a) how likely is it that dh will actually wear it?
b) does that limit me to the brown and is that just too boring?
Any other suggestions for gauze/ very lightweight wraps much appreciated.

Have you tried emailing the lady at calin bleu and asking her for the one you want? She is v nice.

All the gypsymama ones tend to ornate i think.

EllieKthePA · 07/04/2007 12:16

depends on your dh maveta, my BIL is always the one with the baby in the sling

maveta · 07/04/2007 12:17

Yeah, I emailed her a while ago and she said she´d check if she had any old stock she could sell on but obviously didn´t, but then she was sure they´d have the new stuff in before my date so it wasn´t an issue. Did try her again end of march to check I was on mailing list to hear asap when they were out and she said I was. Don´t want to harrass, just want a wrap!!

Ellie - yeah I know.. he´s pretty in touch with his feminine side so can imagine him wanting to carry the baby. So to rephrase that- ´given that my dh probably WILL use the wrap, does that limit me to the brown?´ (and is the brown just too blaaah?)

i don't think brown is blah, and if he's that in touch with his fem side it shouldn't matter

maveta · 07/04/2007 12:21

LOL - well there´s ´in touch´ and there´s wearing pink...

hi

try the babywearer.com trade and buy section at the bottom of the forums board.

or try slingmeet.co.uk and see if anyone's got anything you could borrow till CalinBlue get more stock.

you can also rent from bigmamaslings.co.uk - i rented a calinblu gauze last year and it was lovely. i think you can get your rental towards purchase price too.

guess it depends on if you want something brand new.......

the didymos come in more muted colours i think.

are you definately wanting a wrap? there are a number of other options like pouches and ring slings that can be good for newborns or the mei tais too.

or, you could just SPOC it and make your own!

HTH and good luck finding what you want.

EllieKthePA · 07/04/2007 12:37

maveta is in Spain so needs something cool, gauze was recommended, are those you mentioned still suitable?

Paddlechick666 · 07/04/2007 12:47

oh i see! yes the guaze definately makes sense for warmer climes. i heat up quickly and am finding my storch warm even now.

erm, the babywearer forum is still good for trade and buy.

slingmeet not really an option i guess. altho a good place to ask questions of someone with more experience of a wider range of slings than me.

bigmamaslings would probably still ship to spain i expect.

the cwtshi is a mei tai type carrier so not a wrap but is available in linen so would be cooler.

i also bought a freedom ring sling off ebay which is cotton but personally i struggled with a ringsling for when dd was newborn.

i'm rather useless with making things but a swedish friend made a wrap very quickly and easily just recently so that might still be an option.

there are websites with good instructions - babywearer being one!

hth

Oh well that was easy - just got dh to look at the pages and he totally vetoed the gypsymama slings, even the brown one. He is dead set on the calin bleu ones so guess we´ll have to wait. Who would have thought I should have asked him before throwing the q out to MN?

Thanks Paddlechick.. I have thought about making my own.. i mean how hard can it be? But do worry about buying the wrong fabric and my baby falling through it!

hi

bigmama have got a didymos on offer but it's a rather lovely bright red so your dh might not be so keen!

check out sewing your own

there's a heap of good resources on this site.
