we are thinking of getting a dishwasher. Was just wondering if any one has one that they would recommend or vice versa, one they have bought but hate!

thanks in advance x

Bosh is brilliant, Hotpoint was shite! same goes for washing machines but whatever you do, DO get one, id not be without mine now. Don't be sucked in by loads of programmes either, you just need one with a hot and eco wash and forget the digi dispay, it just bumps up the price, we went for the second cheapest bosh do and its fab.

rantinghousewife · 04/04/2007 22:49

Bosch, absolutely fab!! Avoid zanussi, utter shite and their customer service sucks.

Pannacotta · 04/04/2007 23:13

Don't buy Smeg, look nice but utterly crap and appalling customer service and far too few engineers who will come and fix them out of guarantee (the bloke who came to fix ours ripped us off).
Not that I'm bitter or anything!

Matonic · 04/04/2007 23:19

Bosch Exxcel - every kitchen I go into has one. Does anyone else actually make dishwashers?
We have also had a bad Smeg experience - a cooker. So glad to get rid of it!

avoid Beko - broke after 18 months.

AitchTwoOh · 05/04/2007 00:06

i like my fisher and paykel dishdrawer. but that's just cos it's two in one and spiffy.

UCM · 05/04/2007 00:12

Had a beko was terribly good until it broke after the year had run out I now have a john lewis one, because it's the only one that gives a 3 year guarantee for nothing and it german made. Delivery free as well. They take your old one away for 9.00.

My JL one is wicked. Its got a quick wash which lasts 30 minutes and it's enough for everything. Unless they are heavily wrecked pans which I soak first anyway but it cleans them too.

UCM · 05/04/2007 00:13

Oh Colditz, I did it too, it ran out after 16 months.

You can't even get it repaired as they don't do the parts anywhere

twinsetandpearls · 05/04/2007 01:05

have had bosch and the current one is an LG both fab.

I think my mum had an indesit which was rubbish.

sunnywong · 05/04/2007 01:11

so that's heavily tilted towards the Bosch is it? I thought as much.

Hmmm....I used to have a half size one years ago and today I buy my first dishwasher for 3 years with the first money I've earned for 6 years .........YIPEEEEEEEE

Won't have anywhere to install it for another 6 months thought

REIDmychocolateylips · 05/04/2007 08:05

thank you so much for the advice! i have always thought i dishwasher was a luxury we didnt need and couldnt afford, but since ds came along spare time is in short enough supply, the last thing i want to be doing is washing dishes!

thanks again and keep 'em coming!

though its looking very much like it'll have to be a bosh!

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 08:08

smeg are awful also a bad cooker experience wouldn't get anything else from them

has no one had a decent indesit one?

we havre a slim bosch too and no problems

second the miele with the flat tray lot that via divorce!

Furball · 05/04/2007 08:08

We have had two now that has a quick 30 minutes wash with no dry and I use that programme eveyday. Saving time, water and electricity.

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 08:10

you do often find with white goods though that they are all made in a massive place together and relabelled for sale at different price points

lg make alot of evrything

Laura032004 · 05/04/2007 08:25

We have a whirlpool 6th sense dishwasher. Touch wood, it has been fab, and is now four years old. It's very water efficient, and cleans really well. We got it as it was the recommended dw in the Which report at the time. Might be worth doing a trial Which subscription to check out their findings. They're really easy to cancel if you do - subscribe, and cancel the same day, then you still get access for 30 days without any worries

Our dishwasher is huge though - in size and capacity. It does 12 place settings I think.

laughingduck · 05/04/2007 08:41

My Hotpoint and my mother's Bosch are identical inside and according to the guy who came out to service my washing machine, Bosch make all the Hotpoint dishwashers. I have no idea how mine performs compared to others as it is the first I've owned, but it is 5 years old and still OK. I have only called an engineer out once when dh forgot to screw the filter in at the bottom and it leaked. The engineer was very surprised to be called for a dishwasher as he said that they almost never get called out for them (washing machines are a different story however ). Thumbs up for Hotpoint from me .

yaddayah · 05/04/2007 08:46

also a stay away for smeg.. absolute rubbish

MintChocChippyMinton · 05/04/2007 08:51

a basic bosch does the job, no need to pay more for fancy features.

katyjo · 05/04/2007 09:01

I have just bought a john lewis dishwasher, it is very quite and comes with a three year guarantee. It is made by AEG and john lewis deliver for free too! Ours was £329 only 44db (most are 54db ish about twice as loud).

Good luck

katyjo · 05/04/2007 09:01

sorry meant quiet, not quite!

dingdongjustforyoufg · 05/04/2007 09:09

ours is AEG, we've had it over 3 years, no problems at all and it has a 30 min cycle that does the job well

CocoLoco · 05/04/2007 09:50

We have a Bosch dishwasher that was the cheapest available (were hoping not to have it for long) and I must say that it doesn't wash as well as the more expensive Bosch we used to have. So if you're getting Bosch, get the Exxcel or Logixx rather than Classixx (too many x's!!)

Oh and we had a Smeg dishwasher once which died when it was just outside warranty, so I would steer clear of them

susie40 · 05/04/2007 17:06

We splashed out on the really fancy Bosch. It's great!

  1. VERY quiet
  2. Recalculates the washing time based on how dirty the first lot of water is, so wash usually done in 1hr 20 instead of 2 hr 30
  3. It's 100% toddler proof as all the controls are inside the top of the door so inaccessible when door is shut

Well worth the extra money IMHO

mumto3girls · 05/04/2007 17:09

I have the same miele as calfrau (?) and I too am in total awe of the cutlery tray..and when ever friends have been round whilst I'm unloading it they all exclaim that they wished their dishwasher had one instead of the silly standup thingies they normally have to shove cutlery in..also much safer as all knives are safely away in the flat drawer instead of sticking upwards!!
