Car smells like gas (not fuel) when parked up

For the past few days when I have gotten in my car I can smell quite a strong smell of gas, it smells like the type that's on your kitchen hob, does this smell the same as unleaded petrol? If so I assume I have a leak? I can't see nothing when I drive away from where it's parked

Not sure, but the odour added to natural gas is similar to that given off by something decomposing, could there be some food or even a dead animal somewhere in your car?

Ours has that sometimes too! Only when the air con is on while sitting idle at the lights or something tho, it started last year after we had the cam belt done I thought it might be some kind of grease or lubricant or even hot rubber from the engine

Hmmm I don't think it would be odour from food or anything. Don't think I've hit an animal either I'll give it a good clean out this afternoon after work and check again tomorrow before I go to the garage. Thanks for the advice guys

Had it got a Cat? I took my car to to garage because it was smelling of burning - after 2 visits where they found nothing wrong with it - someone who knew about custom service as well as mechanics put my mind at rest. It's a 64 plate Golf TDI. The Cat is now at the front, and waste gases are fanned out. Because it's at the front, you tend to notice it - when it was at the back nobody noticed.
