A friend of mine suggested using my car to do airport runs. My car only functions if I do motorway driving so this is an option.

Do taxi firms let you use your own car?
What are the uber firms?
What insurance would I need?
Can i start up privately?

Please don't jump on me as partners of taxi drivers. I'm literally at the end of my tether and don't know what to do other than long distance drive it..I love driving..is it an option?

I think in the first instance you need to speak to your local council as they are the ones that issue private hire licenses.

My mum has just started taxi driving. She had to pay out the best part of £500 to pay for a licence, DBS and a driving test (even though she could already drive, she had to take a taxi driving test and she had a DBS to work in a school but it wasn't the right one etc. etc.) so it's not a case of just deciding to do it.

She doesn't use her own car. I think it's possibly to do with insuring a new taxi driver, she was going to share a car with her friend who is a taxi driver but his insurance would have been so expensive she ended up working for a firm instead.
