washing machine not adding fabric softener - how much will the repair cost?

My Bosch has been erratic about taking in the fabric conditioner and now seems to have given up on it completely. Apparently it's one of the sensors inside..
I'm trying to decide whether to throw in the towel and just buy a new machine (this one is nearly 7 years old) or get it fixed...
any ideas how much this will cost?

or give up using fabric conditioner and/or switch to 2in1? (damn sight cheaper)

yes, have degunked the drawer (loooovely! Bleurgh) but that's not made any difference. It just doesn't seem to even fill the softener compartment with water, the stuff just sits in there.

I like using softener for all the plasticky school jumpers.

is 2 in 1 good then? Does it really work?

Try distilled vinegar - the colourless stuff not the brown stuff. That's what our grandmothers used as a softner in hard water areas...it will clean through your pipes really well. Stick about 2 tablesoons in the softner drawer...try it what have you got to lose!?

I chucked one load of those washing machine cleaning crystals Lakeland does down it, to no avail.
