dangerous toddle truck

I have just bought an ELC wooden toddle truck for my 12mo by mail order and was really disappointed.

The wood was totally unsanded, unfinished and splintery at one end and the wheels were held on by metal pins which promptly dropped off! Just the right size for ds to swallow.

I always thought that ELC were really good on hardwearing toys and safety.

Did I just get a 'rogue' one? Has anyone else got one and what's it like? I want to know is it worth changing it for another one or looking elsewhere?

I don't have any experience of this particular item but was in ELC a few weeks ago and heard someone complaining about a dangerous swing. She was offered a refund by the shop staff and asked to write to head office to make them aware of her concerns. The staff said that Head Office should be made aware of any problems direct otherwise they would never know if products were unsafe or unsuitable. Is there a helpline that you can ring to complain in the first instance? If you are lucky they might arrange an exchange/refund for you over the phone. Good Luck.

Someone bought dd an ELC toddler truck when she was born (2.5 years ago), it has been brilliant and she still uses it. I have just had a look and the wood is quite unfinished I suppose, but not that bad. The wheels (red plastic) are held on by metal pins but they haven't ever dropped off. Considering the amount of use and bashing it gets (inside and outside), I think its lasted really well. I seem to remember when we got it that we thought it wasn't that sturdy, and it took a bit of coaxing to line up the handle and screw holes on the base. Perhaps you should compare yours with others from ELC, you might have got a bad one.

I bought ds his ELC toddler truck for christmas and it's been brilliant. He is 18 months and uses it to transport his cars, duplo, teddy and stones around the garden. My 6 year old ds uses it as a skateboard and he wheels his brother around the garden. I would definitely take your truck back and get a replacement as they have sent you a dodgy one.

Thanks everyone - maybe I just got a dodgy one I'll see if I can change it.

We had a major problem with this truck where one of the wheel clips came off. Our daughter started to choke on it when she popped it into her mouth.

Please write to ELC if you have had the same problem, as the next time we hear about this problem, it could be a much worse story!
