We have just moved. In Bristol my boys had a tree house but due to this being a new house and its bare garden we cant do that here so we thought we'd buy them a play tower. (open sided shed on stilts - ladder, slide etc)Some of these things cost thousands and you could actually live in them but a few are quite reasonably priced at £300 (ish) . We ordered one on line last night from prezzybox. They said delivery would be free if the order was over £40 but today they want £230 to deliver to central Scotland. Good grief we live in Alloa not Mars!!
Does anyone know of a site that will give free delivery on such products or better still a company in Northern GB or Scotland who make/sell this type of thing?

active kids

We bought from them last year and they delivered for nowt to Stirling and Edinburgh. Loads of options on display and they now have a cafe and play area too.

This is a problem all over Scotland with some delivery companies I'm afraid. My mum lives a few miles north of the Border, literally 25-30 miles from carlisle, yet a company was going to charge her over £150 for delivery because it was "an uneasy to reach area"!
They think we live on the moon

tassis · 20/03/2007 19:10

well i live in central scotland (quite near you in fact figleaf) and I've never heard of this so please don't assume this is the norm, figleaf.

Hope you're settling in OK.

Thanks for the links littlelapin (a bit pricey yes) and gomez. And thanks for the reassurance gomez and tassis. I'm sorry that you have had problems too saltire.

If you are quite near tassis you wouldn't like to adopt me would you? coffee, dog walks that sort of thing. Im meeting a MNetter tomorrow to walk the dog. Itll be by first mummy chat since moving here(excluding chats to the builders or the army of pensioners who walk their dogs by my house).
I've just read that back and it sounds a bit pushy but I feel almost invisible at the school gate somtimes. It was just a thought.

Sugarmagnolia · 22/03/2007 09:41

you could try here I know some of it is very pricey but you might be able to find something reasonable.

figleaf · 22/03/2007 14:14

Nice link sugarmagnolia - thanks.

tassis I will mail - thanks.

Hey if you are heading into Stirling we could have a mini-MN meet-up during the Easter hols...

figleaf · 22/03/2007 15:57

Just tried that website sugarmagnolia. We liked the swing king orchard playset (£449).Although they say it is only the Highlands that they won't deliver to they cancelled my order because I live in Alloa. Thanks though.

Gomez - more the merrier!

ooh sorry!

scotlou · 22/03/2007 16:53

Have you tried Argos? They have a few wooden playsets on their website - and think they would deliver OK.

juliemarch06 · 22/03/2007 22:02

Hi ladies
Would me and my LO be able to gatecrash your mini meet up if it happens? I live in Stirling with my daughter who has just turned one and DP Colin and don't have many mummy friends :-(, so I would love to come along and meet you.

PS i am more a lurker than a poster but you all seem lovely on mumsnet!

Loshad · 22/03/2007 22:23

or get a local builder to make you one, not hard, and probably no more expensive.

Skribble · 22/03/2007 23:05

There are Scottish companies that specialise in domestic play equipment. They may be local to me as I see adverts for carpenters to work for them. I will try and get info.

Skribble · 22/03/2007 23:08

Sorry I think it might be this one, a bit expensive perhaps

Skribble · 22/03/2007 23:19

Not scottish but good price and free delivery

figleaf · 23/03/2007 11:31

Really kind Skribble. The 1st link to the US company is a little expensive and the second link is more of a play house really than the boy tower things that the other companies (who wont supply Scotland) are offering. I will try Argos Scotlou (hadn`t thought of that- do they do wooden structures?) and I will investigate if a local builder can do it Loshad. As we live on a new house building site I should be able to lay my hands on one.

About a mini meet up. I have inlaws with me till wed of week 2 of the hols and DS1 (age 9) has a council ski course for 4 days in week 1. DS2 (age 5)and I are free once he is dropped off at the ski centre for an hour and a half though. If that is not possible I dont think the holidays will work. Im not sure how easy it would be to find an activity suitable for my 9 y.o boy and lots of tiny tots to do together . As we have only been here 4 months Im a HUGE billy-no-mates outside of the holidays. If juliemarch06, gomez and tassis would like to meet I'd be quite keen.

Stirling mini meet up...next week any good for anyone if holidays are filling up?

does someone want to start a new thread for this?

gomez · 23/03/2007 22:08

Hi Tassis - thought about starting a new thread and then got scared

I am about next week (in fact I am sure I spotted you at the McB a few weeks ago but you were a bit distracted so I didn't bound over and interrupt.). Anyhoo Thursday or Friday are both okay for me at the moment, Thursday with DD2 and DS, Friday DS only. Need to leave for school picking up time but otherwise can pitch-up wherever.

Also there is a thread in Meet-Ups organising a trip to Edinburgh Zoo at the end of April for anyone interested.

tassis · 24/03/2007 20:18

Thursday 1pm-ish?

Who can make then?

gomez, sorry i didn't spot you at McBob, I think the last time we were there was for Papa please get the moon for me...maybe about 6 weeks ago? was i looking hassled?!

I'll ask ja9 too...

ja9 · 25/03/2007 14:07

meet up sounds good. which thursday are you talking about?
