We have just moved. In Bristol my boys had a tree house but due to this being a new house and its bare garden we cant do that here so we thought we'd buy them a play tower. (open sided shed on stilts - ladder, slide etc)Some of these things cost thousands and you could actually live in them but a few are quite reasonably priced at £300 (ish) . We ordered one on line last night from prezzybox. They said delivery would be free if the order was over £40 but today they want £230 to deliver to central Scotland. Good grief we live in Alloa not Mars!!
Does anyone know of a site that will give free delivery on such products or better still a company in Northern GB or Scotland who make/sell this type of thing?

was wondering about this week as it seemed the holidays weren't suiting people

we need to welcome figleaf to the area and let her see that scottish mummies can be friendly

gomez · 25/03/2007 18:37

Eh I am dumb, Thursday is a no-go for me I am afraid I am already meeting a friend for lunch.

Friday is good. I am around most of the holidays too, although I so appreciate that doesn't suite Figleaf which is the whole point of this thing...

Anyhoo, I'll check back later/tomorrow.

tassis · 25/03/2007 21:25

I can do Friday

gomez · 26/03/2007 08:35

Cool. Anyone else, Figleaf, Julie? MacBob at 1pm - although if Figleaf is coming from Alloa and would presumably need to be back for school finishing time perhaps earlier/am would be better?

juliemarch06 · 26/03/2007 10:41

Hi Girls. Can't make Friday's cos I work Wed-Fri Have a a great time girls and I'll keep my eyes peeled on the site in case theres a meet up that me and Grace can come along to!

figleaf · 27/03/2007 12:29

You are very kind tassis and Gomez to consider me. What is a McBOB?
I would love to come but my kids leave school early on Friday 30th (as it is the end of term). Please go ahead and meet but can we all do it again after the holidays? Perhaps Juliemarch06 could make it then too.
If someone does start another thread can they link it here or I`ll never find it.

figleaf - the McRobert is the arts centre at stirling uni. It has a great programme of theatre events for children and adults and is worth a google. Also has a very child friendly cafe with lots of space to run around and you can have a lovely walk round the pond (dogs not allowed though). We've done MN meet ups there before.

I think you should suggest a date that suits you (maybe first week back after hols) and we could go with that?

also did you know there was a trip to Edinburgh Zoo planned for 28th April?

gomez · 27/03/2007 16:33

Sounds like a good idea Tassis.

Over to you Figleaf.

suis · 29/03/2007 00:21

Hello,

Anyone mind if I join in ? Ja9 on the Feb Mums thread sent me over ! I'm in Alva, and although I come from Menstrie originally, I spent 20 years in Glasgow and have only been back here for a year, and so I hardly know anyone local anymore (apart from my parents of course) I had my wee boy Alexander (Sandy) on Feb 14th so I am just at the point of getting out and about a bit (as long as the doc signs of my c-section I should be driving again very shortly).

emat · 29/03/2007 10:33

Have you tried jungle gym On the site they say that you go an buy the timber seperately but if you email you they will tell you their nearest stockest and often you can buy the whole thing timber at all.
They have to be assembled from scratch which is a 2 day job but they're a lot less expensive than most. We got the Villa and it's been great.

figleaf · 01/04/2007 19:41

What about The Friday of the first week back (20th April). I'm sure my super sat nav will find the McBob cafe. This would sounds good for you mums with tots and we can all enjoy the coffee/cake. You dont need to be a student or anything do you? At 39 my SU days are long behind me! (I secretly fear you are all bright young things) suis, the more the merrier.

On the playtower front we have finally found and ordered one from Garden adventures ltd. We thought we'd go for one of their more basic units to keep the cost down (£296)and make delivery costs lower to this bit of Mars that we all call Scotland. We then hope to dress it up a little by buying extras from the Active kids place that gomez suggested. This looks like it will be a fun day out too.

Oh forgot to add, can we have a morning meet up as my youngest has his 6th birthday party the next day so I`ll have a bit of prep to do? Perhaps 10/10.30(ish)

suis · 02/04/2007 23:03

Not to worry Figleaf - I'm a 37 yo new mum, so you won't be outnumbered by young things. Also... my Mum is not long turned 60 and is enjoying part time study at Stirling Uni these days.. so you're never too old for SU !

Mistymoo · 02/04/2007 23:07

Just be glad you don't live in the Highlands - my mum was told that the company didn't deliver overseas !!!! She had to explain that she was on the mainland

bobsmum · 02/04/2007 23:13

Figleaf - thought I'd recommend Lomond Activities in Drymen.

Their site is here

As they're in Stirlingshire and already in a rural community I'm sure they'd be well used to delivering pretty much anywhere.

I've not bought from them myself yet, but the people that own the business are very nice and have a good repuation locally.

I'm 10 minutes down the road from them and pass their shop every day.

figleaf · 04/04/2007 13:49

Thats terrible Mistymoo.
We can be the late 30`s table suis- good for your mum though trying somthing new at 60.
Thanks for the info bobsmum - nice site.

My father in law is about to arrive (DH gone to collect him and MIL now) He will hog the computer to do OU marking so not sure when Ill get back on (till next wed when they go) but Ill assume we are on for 20th April, 10.30 at McBOB unless anyone tells me different.

Thanks all - Figleaf

Hey Figleaf - hope you have enjoyed the holidays. I am around this Friday if you would still like to meet-up. I will keep an eye on this thread.

figleaf · 17/04/2007 19:30

Yes please. I`ll have to Google directions for the Art Centre unless a clever person can link me?

figleaf · 17/04/2007 19:33

B.T.W we put up our play tower during the holidays and went over to the place in Perth for a recky re:extras. 2 happy boys live at my house now.

suis · 18/04/2007 23:21

I'm still up for Friday too, except that I've come down with a nasty cold so it will depend on whether it's cleared up or not. I'm concerned enough about giving it to my own baby, let alone other peoples !

Skribble · 18/04/2007 23:24

I see you have one now, I found out the name of the local company that makes and installs them, oh well .

gomez · 19/04/2007 09:25

Excellent - looking forward to it.

Figleaf -use the AA Routeplanner and get directions to Stirling Uni (The MacRobert is on the Campus). Worth noting that parking can be at a premium on the Campus during the week so probably wise to give yourself a bit extra time.

Shall we aim to meet around 10.30? And Suis if no-one else tips up my DS will be the only other baby around and honestly please don't worry about passing the cold on to him. Having 2 big sisters he is fairly robust!

figleaf · 19/04/2007 10:43

Found it on Google once I re read the thread and typed in MacRobert rather than MacAlpine . I read on the university website that you need to collect a visitor parking permit. Is this correct? Is it possible to park outside the university if parking inside is tight?

10.30 is good for me. Hope I can park.
I hope tassis and a few of the others will be coming too.

My little chaps birthday is not looking good for Saturday. It's Thursday and only 3 of the 12 kids have replied and said yes. 3 others have told him that they are not coming. I checked with the mums and they aren't (although it would have been nice if they could have told me not my L.O). I asked another Mum whose daughter was invited and she said no too. I`ve still to hear from 5 more but I dread asking anyone now.
I'm sure even if we only get the 3 plus my two boys we'll have a nice time it's just that I had hoped it would be a chance to get to know some of the kids and Mums. I think my L.O needed the boost too.

suis · 19/04/2007 17:34

Good stuff Gomez, if I can lever myself out of bed (like I would get the chance to lie in !) I'll be along. Was there any decision on where in the MacBob ? I haven't been there in many many years and I'm not sure what there anymore.

figleaf · 19/04/2007 18:46

Oh dear is the cafe so big we might miss each other?! Still, I`ll just ask any mum-with-baby types are they part of the Mumsnet group. I figure I'll only have to ask one or two people befor I find you all.

What about the parking thing anyone? Do we have to get a visitor permit or is that just for student's visitors? Is parking outside campus reolistic?
