black woodstain for railway sleepers!

Bit of a long shot this but I wondered if anyone knew of any black woodstain suitable for staining rough wood. DH and I have just put in some more railway sleeper steps in our garden and want to paint them black but I've not been able to find any black stain. We bought some a couple of years ago when we put in our first few steps but threw the tin out so don't know who made it. I've been to B&Q, Homebase and Wickes but none of them have any (just the current trend of greens and browns!)

Suggestions anyone?!!

Probably did it wrongly but we used fence paint on ours and it was fine! Why don't you ring a landscaper for some advice they are sure to help...

Hi PS, I've bought some fencepaint as an interim so at least the sleepers are all the same colour. Good idea about phoning a landscaper, I shall go and hunt in Yellowpages! Thanks.
