Hey everyone, I have two children who are mixed race and my daughters hair is very coarse she's 19 months, I'm just wondering if anyone knows any good products to help with the maintenance of Afro hair? Thanks Smile

There's a kids dark and lovely range of hair products that are really good.

Best thing to do to keep on top of tangles and dry hair, is combing the hair when wet, only with conditioner and a wide tooth comb. Towel dry it and then put in leave in conditioner.

You don't need to shampoo their hair non more than once a week, unless they get genuinely dirty (paint, food, general kid shenanigans) you shampoo mixed Afro hair more than that, it will strip out any natural oils etc out and leave the hair too dry

My daughter is white, there's no mixed race in the family at all but the hairdresser she sees in convinced she's 'passing' as white as she had what she classes as mixed race hair.

We use coconut oil and a silk pillowcase and it really helps.

Depending on where you live there should be a hairdressers that is trained for afro hair. Alternatively, stop anyone you see in the street with beautiful hair and ask for recommendations. I've yet to find any woman who won't offer advice and suggestions.

There is a topic in being a parent called multicultural families which has a lot of threads about mixed race hair.

We don't live in the U.K. and there are very few people here with afro hair, I always ask those I meet where they get their hair done. They never mind.

I live in a town where no one is trained with Afro hair, thanks for the recommendations ladies
