There are some sofas in the Argos book that say they are Corrected grain leather.

What on earth does that mean ???

Is it a posh way of saying they are crap ??

LOL at posh way of saying they are crap!!! According to web definitions, corrected grain leather is - Leather that?s buffed to remove unattractive blemishes and embossed to simulate an attractive grain pattern or to add a decorative texture

littlemissbossy · 07/07/2004 23:11

god knows what that means, can you get a sample of the leather from argos??

nutcracker · 07/07/2004 23:15

Hmmm i did have a quick look at the samples in Argos and it did look a bit funny. Looked very fake actuallyu.

God if i ever get these bloody sofas sorted it will be a miracle.

Corrected grain leather looks a bit more finished off, rather than a lot of the natural waxed sofas that you see around. These usually have scars from the hide still visible etc. We loved the natural effect, but with 2 small kids thought that it would stain really easily and so went for a chunky look corrected grain one that wipes really easily. Still looks great but is slightly more practical! Best thing to do is to get a swatch from the shop if you can. As with all leather, you get what you pay for and the thicker leathers as usually more durable and more expensive......Happy shopping!

Have you tried DFS? The adverts look crap but they do have some good sofas- chocolate is what we went for!! An other really good company is the Vintage Tanning company based in Cheshire - they do a fab range of natural waxed sofas but a bit pricey though.

Well they are pretty cheap. 3 seater and 2 seater for 600 quid.

Can't afford any more than that though.

I'm sure there was someione on MN who brought the ones i'm on about.

ahhh ... well, if you're interested, we've just bought leather sofa plus chair in chocolate from ikea for our family room (sofa £400 and chair £275 or £295, can't remember), really comfy and very good value and it's not the leather that marks/scratches easily IYKWIM - don't know if you're got an ikea close to you?

nutcracker · 07/07/2004 23:28

If it's the one i think you mean then i have seen it and i love it.
I would need two sofas though and can't really stretch to 800 quid.
