Kia 4x4 petrol or diesel??

Thinking about getting a Kia Sportage but not sure whether to go petrol or diesel. Does anyone have any opinions / experience on either, good or bad. Thinking it would either be 1.6 petrol or 1.7 diesel. TIA.

Keep an eye on the news re diesel cars. Reports that they are actually worse for air pollution than petrol means that shortly some people will be paid to scrap their diesel car, and there are discussions of introducing a 'toxin tax' which could see the costs of running a diesel increase massively. www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-39804503

I've driven the petrol version one of the many random hire cars I've had through work and really enjoyed it -didn't actually want to give it back

No experience of the diesel but I would be nervous about buying a diesel now for much the same reasons as pp pointed out

I love love love my diesel one. Admittedly I am not in the UK and diesel is usually cheaper here even though it is not the best environmentally but it does go like the clappers!

Thanks for replies, I've heard of the recent reports on diesels think that's what's putting me off. We're in a rural area so might not affect us initially but u never know. Need to do more thinking!

it really depends on how many miles you do.

the report on the climate change is so watered down can't see it coming into effect any time soon. lots of consultation to be done
