Fruit bowls - why are they never ever big enough? Am I a freak?

each week, I buy

1 large bag apples
1 large bag pears
2 punnets of plums
2 large bunches of bananas
1 large bunch of grapes

...and usually at least one other item

Fruit bowls is piled high with fruit, with more in teh fridge, I'd just like it all in one big bowl.

are we fruit freaks? Do YOU buy as much? Where do you keep it?

I generally have a bowl of mixed fruit in the kitchen and one on the table for after meals -

ComeOVeneer · 10/03/2007 14:04

Snap Mine is precariously piled high that every time dd helps herself to fruit it all tumbles out all over the kitchen counters.

MamaG · 10/03/2007 14:04

oh thats not a bad idea actually - I just have the bowl in teh kitchen, but could put another on teh dining room table

We have a bowl in the kitchen, one on the dining table, a banana tree and keep some (berries etc) in the fridge.

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2007 14:06

I have three and they are all full right now

I have found the sort that hold the most are the very large flattish shallow sort. You can build huge pyramid shapes of fruit with them.

MamaG · 10/03/2007 14:07

ooh Franny three fruit bowls

All our fruit goes in a flat-bottomed, shallow basket that my parents were given as a kind of "open hamper" one Christmas. It fits in most of the fruit we eat in a week but we keep the apples in the fridge so that helps! The basket is great though because it allows the air to circulate underneath so we rarely get manky fruit lurking at the bottom.

Lullabyloo · 10/03/2007 14:14

always have ikky, sticky gunk at the bottom

Hello you mad Fruit fanatics! I don't know if anyone's interested, but I got a voucher in the post this morning from Ocado (promise I don't work for them!) which apparently when you order over £90 of goods online and put in this voucher number (think it's standard and not just unique to me?!?) then you will get load of fruit and veg added to your order for FREE!

Some or all of the following: Blueberries, Large Supersweet pineapple, clementines, sweet potato, chanay carrots, grapes selection and tenderstem broccoli...

If it is unique to me and someone gets in before I do then I hope you enjoy your freebies!

i have a big goldfish bowl. fruit in it, banas hang round the top. still not big enough. some stuff has to sit on the side, like melons.

Tortington · 10/03/2007 14:31

we don buy loads but i keep the citrus seperate - and i dont have a fruit bowl i use pyrex dishes

suedonim · 10/03/2007 14:32

Ah, now I see why I never have enough room in my fridge. I keep most of our fruit in the fridge with just apples/pears/bananas on the worktop.

suedonim · 10/03/2007 14:33

Not pears - oranges!

Kbear · 10/03/2007 14:39

I've just bought tons too, three fruit bowls worth. We are fruit freaks too.

Pannacotta · 10/03/2007 19:17

I use a platter/serving type plate as a bowl was never big and things get lost at the bottom. With sth flat you can see what is there.

All my fruit and veggies, and there is a vast amount of both, are kept in the salad drawers of the fridge.

I just love cold fruit!

nikkie · 10/03/2007 20:49

I keep most in fridge with just apples/oranges/grapefruit etc in the fruit bowl but have started using a large mixing bowl just so it all fits!
