I've decided to buy a portable DVD player to keep my ds happy while I'm bathing his newborn baby sister. Can anyone recommend one? I'd like one which we can use in the car as well.

My DD got one for Xmas... we got it from Argos, they have a good selection. Is rechargable so you could use it in the car.

We've had 3 since October last year and all have gone back through faults.

We now just put films onto dh's PSP and it works just as well.

Ds has a venturer make that he had for xmas from his grandparents, so unfortunately i have no idea where it came from. Seems to work ok though and he can use it in the car (although haven't tried it as have 3 dc and they wouldn't all be able to see it iyswim).

Hi there was another thread on mn some time ago, but more for a multi region player which means that if you go abroad it will play DVDs from that country. Sorry that's about as technical as I get. We bought a Shinco as other mn's recommended this make and we are very happy with it, sorry cant rememberw hich site but not amazon as they were the most expensive. If your not interested in multi region then Curry's have one in their sale at the moment otherwise Tesco have loads pretty cheap, all good makes. Hope this is some help.

Hi there
IT all depends on whether you are just playing shop bought pre-recorded DVDs or if you have a DVD recorder and want to make you r own DVDs for him to watch.
I wanted to buy one last year as we make numerous trips to the south of France by car, but as we have a DVD recorder, I needed it to work with rewritten DVDs not just pre-recorded ones. Hardly any (if any) of the cheap ones will accept rewritten DVDs. We bought a polaroid one and it is fantastic.

We'll just be using shop-bought DVDs, so are after the simplest, cheapest machine. I haven't heard of shinco before - will try a google search.
