3k to spend on a car, what would you get?

Budget is 3k, needs to comfortably fit one adult and 2 late primary children, with the odd guest. We want to attach a bike rack, lots of short journeys around town, AND long distance adventures! Oh, and I'm rubbish at parking....

No one has replied yet! Surely someone must have some advice?
We need a new small car, to fit 2 adults, a newborn and all the extra stuff like pushchair etc.
I've been thinking maybe an older Skoda Fabia? 2005 -2010 seem to be within your price range. Should be easy to park as small, but not too tiny to fit everyone in. Two of my friends have them and think they are great.
If you've already taken the plunge before you got this message I'd be interested toknowwhat you went for in the end.
