Dishwashers (again), if not Miele or Bosch, then what else?

MrsSpoon · 06/03/2007 22:29

My dishwasher is on the blink, could very well be repairable but getting some ideas just in case. My current dishwasher is a basic cheap Miele (which I have recommended on here time after time) and has gone capoot after 4 1/2 years. My Miele washing machine however must be made of stronger stuff as it is still going strong after 8 years.

If we were replacing it I'm not sure about going for a Miele again, maybe dishwashers aren't their thing. Not so keen on Bosch as my Mum has had loads of problems with her Bosch washing machine and her repair man says Bosch isn't what it used to be.

What about AEG or Siemens? Anyone got one of these?

I will check Which for you, Mrs S - they just did dishwashers IIRC.

Our AEG dishwasher has been going strong for over 10 years now (okay, so the little box that you put the tablet in broke last week, and the cutlery basket is looking a bit worn - but still the damn thing won't die). However, I don't rate the AEG washer/dryers - swap you for the Miele?

MrsSpoon · 06/03/2007 22:41

Fantastic, thanks JanH, you are a star!

Are these Which or Good Housekeeping?

I will have a look around on the net at some of them.

MrsSpoon · 06/03/2007 22:43

LOL Rubberduck, no you can't have it, I think I'm going to be buried in my Miele washing machine!

OP posts:
JanH · 06/03/2007 22:44

My Bosch dishwasher is at least 10 years old, has needed new wheels on the top basket and a wiring repair; my Bosch washer is just over 12 months old and is finesofartouchwood! (Previous Bosch washer was also 8-10 years old IIRC)

I would still go for a Bosch meself. Admittedly the Which reliability reports are based on member questionnaires so I suppose a lot of their Bosches could be older ones and there may have been a change but I'd certainly risk it!

JanH · 06/03/2007 22:45

These are Which, Mrs S

MrsSpoon · 06/03/2007 23:00

Thanks Jan. Just been on JL's website comparing some machines and was reminded of the blurb that comes with the Miele machines that they are designed to last 20 years. I should have another try to get someone out to look at it, think it will have to be a proper Miele man as nobody local can touch it, apart from one guy who said he could and he just didn't show up .

I can't cope without my dishwasher!!!

OP posts:
MrsSpoon · 07/03/2007 15:50

OK I'm back to singing the praises of Miele, turns out the problem is an air vent with a little plastic disc to cover it, the little plastic disc started to fall off a while back so it lets in water to a part of the dishwasher that isn't supposed to have any water in it. The guy turned up today took the bottom off the machine and emptied out gunky grotty water and is coming later to stick the plastic disc on with special glue and replace an electrical part (a fuse?) that has gone pop because of the water being in the wrong bit of the machine.

Not very technical but all in all not a big problem.

Thanks again JanH for all the info.

OP posts:
JanH · 07/03/2007 20:16

Great news - it'll probably work fine for the rest of its 20 years now (touch wood)!

MrsSpoon · 07/03/2007 23:36

LOL, hope so. His parting words were "That's a couple of good machines you've got there" I was very flattered.

dingdongjustforyoufg · 08/03/2007 08:38

I have an AEG favorit, no problems with it at all, had it for 3.5 years, it has a great 30 mins programme too

Flower3554 · 08/03/2007 08:44

We have a Servis dishwasher thats about 7 years old and working well. The only problem is a worn out cutlery rack.

Can you buy replacement baskets anywhere?

JanH · 08/03/2007 09:45

Yes, you can, flower - hang on a sec...

JanH · 08/03/2007 09:48

Try here - you'll need your model number (should be on a little plate on the top of the door I think)

Flower3554 · 08/03/2007 11:40

Thank you JanH. I've just ordered one. God this site is bloody marvelous Where else could I have asked this and find someone who knew. Brilliant.

For months now I've only been able to use two of the sections as the others have holes which allows the cutlery to drop through.

RubberDuck · 08/03/2007 13:16

That site is fab - anyone know what the little box things that the tablet falls out of is called and if you can actually fit one yourself? (There's an AEG dispenser and AEG dispenser Cpl listed which I guess are it, but no diagrams and no further description).

JanH · 08/03/2007 13:24

Glad that worked for you, flower

Try this site rubberduck - scroll up and there is a picture.

I recently got a dryer filter from ezee-fix - dead cheap and it came within 24 hours - but it seems only to have limited parts available.

RubberDuck · 08/03/2007 13:30

Phoned the espares people and got a very helpful chap on the other end of the line - is arriving soon Yay!

I never even knew you could get spares for a machine that old - I'm very impressed.

TinCan · 09/03/2007 14:50

I have a Siemens and love it. I've had it for 2 yrs and is still going strong.

RubberDuck · 11/03/2007 10:26

Just wanted to let you know that I got the spares on Saturday. Dh took seconds to fit them in a few minutes and now it feels like we've got a brand new dishwasher again - good for at least another 10 years

Would thoroughly recommend eSpares.

CAM · 11/03/2007 10:30

I like AEG, have had 2
