Have just bought house with small oil aga (a conversion from solid fuel). Had it serviced and all was fine but we put it down on low and then when we turned it up it just didn't seem to be getting any hotter. I thought it was going out so I switched it off. Not sure whether I did the right thing! Should it relight easily? How long does yours take to get to optimum temperature? Has the strong wind got anyhting to do with it??

We have a solid fuel aga and in this windy weather it get's quite cold. I think it's the down draught from the chimney causing that. I have to remember to switch the airvent to max to keep it chugging along.

When I do turn it to maximum heat it can take almost half a day to reach a scorching hot temperature. Not helped by DH leaving the lids up either

Aga's, especially old ones (mine is 50 years plus), can take quite awhile to get used to and even then they can be tricky.

I'd relight yours (ours is difficult to light I'm afraid), turn it upto hot and see what happens over the course of a day. Otherwise you'll have to call the aga engineer.

Good luck.

ours is oil and it does take a while to heat up. we only turn it off once a year for servicing tbh.

i'd get the aga service people round, get them to check it out and gat them to explain all the ins and outs of its workings/operation to you while theyre there.

while youre at it, the aga shops organise special aga cooking workshops so you can learn how to really use it to its full potential too!
