Our kettle died this morning, the switch to turn it on came away in my hand!!!

I havn't had to buy a kettle in so long they don't even make the make I currently have (it was obviously a good one cause its lasted ten years!)

Tell me your recomendations and the ones to avoid!

Are the expensive Dualits worth the money?

The Dualits have a bit of a bad rep on MN - here

Hulababy · 05/03/2007 11:46

We have a Dualit and it is fab. Had it about 3-4 years I think and not had any problems with it at all. So, for us - yes it has been worth the extra money.

Pannacotta · 05/03/2007 12:03

I looked around for ages and asked for advice on MN and eventually found a fab Magimix kettle. Was pricey at £70 from J Lewis but it has a three year guarantee (not 2 years as offered on line), longer than on any other kettle I could find. It is very sleek, fast and stylish (I think so anyway!). Have had many kettles prior to this, Philips, Rowenta etc but they often break down quickly. www.johnlewis.com/Electrical/Small+Appliances/Tea+and+Coffee/Kettles/539/230403102/Product.aspx

£70 for a kettle are you mad??? It boils water does it make the tea for you?? lol.

I got this one recently this one

Mummy2TandF · 05/03/2007 12:10

I loved my old kettle - and it was quite an expensive one, it broke the other day and until I can find another one I like that goes with y kitchen I bought a Tesco Value one - it does the job and was only £4:44

Aloveheart · 05/03/2007 12:12

It boils water.

Pannacotta · 05/03/2007 12:22

The Dualit kettles cost £55 but only have a 1 year guarantee whereas with ours I know its good for 3 years (have had to replace previous kettles almost every year and at £30 a pop, £70 for minimum three years is better value. Buy cheap, buy twice....

cleaninglady · 05/03/2007 12:46

got the dualit toaster which we have had for 7 years and no problem at all!! With regards to kettle we have the siemens porsche one but at about £90 its a bit expensive BUT we have had it for about 6 years with no trouble at all so sort of agree with buying something a bit more expensive that should last ??

RTKangaMummy · 05/03/2007 12:49

Our expensive one broke so we got a TESCO VALUE one as well

It only cost £4

Bagpuss30 · 05/03/2007 14:08

Pannacotta, we have the Magimix one - just bought it this weekend . We previously had a dualit which was pants - even the spares that we had sent for it broke. We make an awful lot of tea throughout the day and so a decent kettle is well worth it for us.

Pannacotta · 05/03/2007 14:16

I think its FAB, am v pleased with it and it looks great! £70 well spent IMHO!!!

weirdbird · 05/03/2007 17:47

Bagpuss30 - So do I, make a lot of Tea that is...

Luckily the old one will let me switch it on if I stick the switch into the hole and wiggle it a bit

Wow Pannacotta - £70..... hmmm, not overly keen on the look I have to admit...

Can't believe I am spending so much time over a kettle...

Can't believe you can even get a kettle for that much. That's nearly my rent a week.

Aloveheart · 05/03/2007 22:25

i had a £30 one and it lasted me 3/4 years. They are not rubbish and not value.

Aloveheart · 05/03/2007 22:26

they are value in some cases i was meant to say.

weirdbird · 05/03/2007 22:26

I am drawn to the design of these

Have a look at these Morphy Richardspyramid designs

Anyone any opinion on Morphy Richards?
