alternatives to buggy boards?

My DH thinks he has seen a buggy with a built-in step at the back for a toddler. Has anyone got one or seen similar? We've got a 6 week old dd and a ds who is almost 3 so it's just for occasional use when ds is tired or i'm on my own with them in town!

yes i think i've seen one. i was carrying a poorly ds through those LONG corridors at hospital on tuesday and the lady a step or 2 ahead had one, she was pushing a newbornish baby, i was very tempted to ask if ds could have a ride, but thought she mightn't like a poorly ds near her newborn and really i knew he wouldn't get on. my arms are still aching.

so the short answer is yes they exist but i'm not very helpful as didn't notice the make

The hitchhiker seat can be found here:

www.edirectory.co.uk/pf/pages/moreinfoa.asp?pe=BFFAFEJQ_+Seat+2+Go+Hitchhiker+Seat&cid=880

The only disadvantage is that they do stick out a lot at the back and so can make pushing the buggy rather awkward.

Hope it helps!

There is an Israeli company called Litaf that makes one that looks like two steps - for standing or sitting and attaches in the same way that the buggy board does. However, I have tried one and found that it stuck out too far and I had to walk in a very awkward posture and also the bottom step beat up my shins. But perhaps that was my style of pram - maybe there would be more space on others?

I have a Waki Ryder that my dds have outgrown - it has a toddler step but unfortunately the seat doesn't recline, so it's no good for a small baby. However, if anyone else fancies it (and a trip to Cambridge), they're very welcome... Sorry it's not helpful to you, Sparkle, but the opportunity to get it out of my kitchen was too good to miss!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Essbee I'd be interested in your pushchair as it sounds just what we are after. I've looked on the Mamas and Papas website but not sure if the ones there are similar to yours or not. How much are you wanting to sell for? what condition is it in? what area are you in? Thanks, Sparkle

Babster

Can't seem to find the waki ryder on any sites. Do you have any idea where I could have a look at it (never heard of it before - is waki ryder the brand or the model?)

babster · 05/07/2004 02:12

There's one on ebay here - mine is a similar colour scheme, but smaller checks.

Babster

Is your buggy still available? and if so, could I have it? We're planning a trip up to Cambridge within the next few weeks anyway so we could pick it up as well.
If it's still available, please contact me via CAT to organise how to meet you...

Thanks

cas73 - done. Look forward to hearing from you. Long live mumsnet!

Hi Essbee,
Sorry, only just had the chance to log on and get your message. I'm in Somerset but have some friends who live in Richmond - anywhere near you?
Would really like the pushchair and £40 sounds great. Thanks again, Sparkle.

I saw a really odd thing in a department store today. It was like a mini bike without front wheel (but not as big as one of those to hook onto a proper bike as a kids trailer) which you attach to one of the uprights at the rear of a pushchair. Looked a bit odd and potentially unbalancing the pushchair and could make it awkward to push.
