laptops again! sorry!!!

Hi really havent a clue what laptop to get. How good are reconditioned ones? What are the best makes and which ones to stay clear of? Have seen a Packard Bell one for £310 recon. It has 1mb cache(what does that mean?) 512 mb ram and 80 gb with 15.4" screen.Any good? Do Dell do theirs with xp any more, as dont want vista at all def dont want vista. any help much appreciated. Cheers.

Forgot to state that the most i want to spend is about £400 ta.

have you seen one you like,maybe do a google on a certain model as some web sites have reviews of different models,did this when dh saw a telly he liked and it made our mind up when it had crap reviews.
