What is a trundle?

I've been looking at bunkbeds and these trundle things keep coming up.

What are they? Some of the pictures look as if they're an extra bed, but there's no extra mattresses included with them.

Oh, I think it's a spare bed, on wheels, that goes under a bed, iyswim. You do need a mattress for them, I think?

nqc is right. i have them from johnny lulus. mine came with two mattresses. v useful.

i had a trundle bed when i was a kid...basically, it was an extra bed that slid out from underneath (for sleepovers etc), but i grew up in Oz. Only problem is that you can't store anything under the bed. Would have thought the mattress would have come with it, as you couldn't have anything to deep, as it wouldn't open/close...if you get me

Hmm sounds useful but wouldn't you think a mattress would be included?

really useful...if the mattress wasn't included i think you would have the measure the depth to make sure you got one that wasn't too high...and probably therefore more a foam type mattress than a spring one

yup.
