HELP, I need your opinions on some furniture
nutcracker · 21/06/2004 12:41
Right i am buying a leather suite 2&3 seater.
Can't afford a lot so have opted for one of the ones where you get the 2 seater free.
I'm stuck between two though.
First ones are in the additions book if anyone has it, on the back of the catolouge.
The others are in the argos book Roma ones page 177.
I'm having choclate.
Would appreciate some opinions.
Oh and whilst you're looking, what do you think of the table and chairs on page 255. Again it's cheap but looks o.k to me.
Did want one that seats 6 but decided to just buy a couple of fold up chairs for when we actually all sit at it.

No opinions on your choices, Nutty, as I don't have the books to hand, but it must be the season for buying furniture as I've just been and ordered a new suite for the living room - 3 seater, 2 seater, armchair and footstool here - except that ours has a blue theme rather than brown. Inordinately excited as our current suite is one which was given to us by my SIL when she got divorced. Not my choice in style or colour, but, with small children, it seemed the ideal compromise, in that I wasn't very bothered what they did to it!
Sorry, didn't mean to steal your thread, just rather excited
CountessDracula · 21/06/2004 12:50
What about the Rio one from Argos, it's half price! here
nutcracker · 21/06/2004 12:57
Hmm not so keen on that one CD and if i had 2 it would come to the same price as the ones in the additions book anyway.
Freckle - It is exciting though isn't it. We have also only ever had other peoples sofas before so i'm ecstatic that i can go and buy my own brand new one.
Freckle · 21/06/2004 13:06
Exactly. Our original one was a suite which dh had before we were married and it was not only rather unattractive, but quite old and tatty - the sort where springs sprang out and attacked you when you sat down. We were thinking about getting a new suite, but not sure what to do with littlies around (well, only had DS1 at the time, but were planning more), when, quite fortuitously (for us, not for her) SIL got divorced and her suite wouldn't fit in her new house. So this will be the first suite that dh and I have bought together in over 11 years of marriage.
Just dug out my Argos catalogue and like the Roma ones. Is the page no. 255 from the Additions catalogue, only there are no tables and chairs on that page in the Argos one?
nutcracker · 21/06/2004 13:07
Yep thats the one Hula.
We could have the two sofas for 589
The other ones in the additions book are a bit of a more modern shape and you get cushions (although i don't actually like the cushions) and they are 2 for 699.
nutcracker · 21/06/2004 13:10
The table and chairs are on page 245 sorry, in the argos book.
The other suite is on the back of the additions book.
Hulababy · 21/06/2004 13:12
If you can find the catalogue number of the other items you'll find them on the site quickly!
nutcracker · 21/06/2004 13:18
Well nearly. If you put in zx0298 it should come up.
It's not that one Katzgutz. Actually i had to put in the number to find it as i didn't come up in the list of leather sofas.
katzguk · 21/06/2004 13:22
think i like the additions one better but then the others what my mumwould call a classic!!
Freckle · 21/06/2004 13:24
The table and chairs look nice, but would you have enough room if you added a couple of chairs? It looks as though 2 more places would make it rather cramped.
Have you looked at Ikea?
Chandra · 21/06/2004 13:37
Eco about having enough room, you really need lots of space for two sofas in that model to fit nicely in a room. If your ceiling is not very high I would recomend a more compact, lower modern model that could make the room look a bit more spacious.
Personally I prefer the Rio to the Roma but I think you can get a nicer model of the Rio at IKEA. (Klipan?)
nutcracker · 21/06/2004 13:47
I know what you mean about the table, but if we had one that permantly seated 6 then it would take up loads of room, but if we had th 4 seaqter and then just brought a couple fold up chairs to use when needed it would save alot of space.
At the most we would only usually need it to seat 5. My table budget is only 150 and i haven't found a 6 seater any where near that.
I will have a look in ikea at the sofas now. Am pretty certain i won't have a prob with them fitting, but i will check when we get keys tommorow.
codswallop · 21/06/2004 13:49
OI prefer Cds ut - much more modersn and simple.
the other one will take over hte room ANd remember to allow for one ironoing board and train track"!
rather less than more
nutcracker · 21/06/2004 13:52
LOL Coddy, didn't think the Rio one looked very comfy.
codswallop · 21/06/2004 13:54
deffo when you get t he keys take some newspaper and a tape measure and make an outline with the newspaper of the sizes f the sofas, and lay them ont he floor
w e did this and it really gives you a good idea of the sizes of things
nutcracker · 21/06/2004 14:01
Whata good idea coddy, why didn't i think of that.
CountessDracula · 21/06/2004 14:24
sorry nutty I don't like either. They are both too puffy for my taste (but then they are not for me LOL!!)
(they remind me of an elephant's scrotum )
Cleaner lines would loom less over the room and look neater IMO
aloha · 21/06/2004 14:28
I like the Ikea ones even better than the Rio ones. Agree with others that a neat looking sofa seems to take up less room and suits a modern room better (esp with low ceilings). Also Ikea v good for cheap tables and chairs. The Ikea sale has just started, I think.
CountessDracula · 21/06/2004 14:31
btw didn't much like that other one I posted either. I like the Bauhaus type (Le Corbusier designed a beautiful one) where they are plain and boxy with the arms the same height as the back. I have a sort of giant armchair of this design which everyone adores as it is so comfortable and looks great.
I have no idea if you can get cheaper versions I bet you can though. Will have a snoop around for you!!!
