They can only say 'no' - take them back, although if you could find the receipt it would be preferable.

They may let you swap for another pair.

It depends - if you can find the receipt, and they are all new and shiny, then the shop are likely to be nice about it.

you'd have more luck with the receipt.

I've done this before. DS1 had only worn them inside though. I took them back (I had the receipt) and they were fine about it.

As long as the soles aren't marked I'd say try it. I've always had schoes i've returned (with receipts) inspected v closely indeed. Always worth a go though.
