I follow the advice I was given- you can skimp on the cot, but never the mattress, it should be the best quality your budget permits..so I would go for the more expensive one

Thansk clare, I been out and came back to this.....and still can't decide which one to get.

proper springs Vs foam springs.

God, it's just as well my life doesn't depnd on this isn't it??

I think I might flip a coin...

I wouldn't go for the most expensive one
babies and indeed toddlers aren't that heavy, and it's not like the other one hasn't bet standards etc etc
I'd save the cash and get a more expensive mattress for their first bed

ok, tediously serious response alert ... the ambipur (mothercare) one is one of the softest around. With the increase in kids getting slightly flat/wonky heads (dd has one due to the (very sensible & good) back-to-sleep campaign, I'd go for softness.
We've got it and ds would like to say it's also very bouncy

I got the mothercare one with springs and zip off top bit for ds1 7 years ago for his cot bed. Ds1 was in cot bed until he was 4, and ds2 is still in it. Fab mattress!!!
