Electric Cars & sitting idle

Does anyone have an electric car and if so how long can you let it sit idle for, then jump in and drive off?

My dh is interested but his car sits at the airport for 3weeks then he has a 50mile drive when he gets ashore. We were wondering if technology is maybe not there yet for our needs? There are no charging points at his oil industry airport either, so recharging is not an option!

Hi

As long as the car is turned off and nothing is running, your electric car should have enough charge to set off. Most service stations on the motorway now have charging points too so if he can set off and does need to charge up on his way, he can simply pop into a service station and charge it for a little bit. Maybe grab an overly priced coffee whilst he's at it.

And if you get a hybrid rather than a full electric car, you can still add fuel to drive the car rather than having to rely completely on the electric motor. Hope any of this helps you.

Would that be enough to do about 40- 50miles?

We're a 12/14 hour ferry journey to Aberdeen so service stations aren't an option :) He doesn't fancy sitting between 1-3hours in a car at the nearest charge point to the airport - it's in the middle of nowhere!

It depends entirely upon the car. If the car has good range then you should be fine. But if you make sure the entire car is shut down whilst it sits in the airport, then it should have sufficient charge.
