I have a lovely wooden one from Plan toys. It has lots of accessories which can be bought separately, eg stretches of road, bridges, more vehicles etc. I think it comes with a truck or 2 to start off. About £40 I think.

I've just picked a wooden one up from woolworths. Its really sturdy and best of all it only cost £23! Its on the woolworths website, its made by chad valley.

Fisher Price does a cheerful plastic one which makes lots of good noises; my ds (16m) got it for Christmas and loves it.

The ELC plastic one has provided hours of playtime for DS (1st birthday present) and his big sister.
