Formalish clothes for small boys! Help!

Wedding coming up in April, by which point the boys will be 5.5 and 2.5. I don't want them in morning suits, but I'd like them to look 'dressy'. Somehow.

I'm planning to try H+M maybe. Or Du pareil au meme? I know John Lewis do formal suits from quite young, but I'd rather get them something they might be able to wear again. (Actually, I may have a white shirt with nice embroidery on it that might fit DS2, maybe with some trousers. Of course, he's incredibly fussy about what clothes he'll wear, but that's a whole other thread ...) DS1's non-school wardrobe currently consists of surfer wear, really. And school uniform is polo shirt etc, so no use ...

Any suggestions?

I can't find anything posh at Vertbaudet. No mention of Colin et Colinne, as far as I can tell ...

Easter being such a popular time for weddings (it was when my boys went to their uncle's wedding) I think you would be surprised at how much formal wear there is available in quite ordinary shops like John Lewis, M&S and Debenhams. I don't remember any great difficulty getting stuff though I did prefer M&S trousers so I know I didn't buy it all in one place.

Hmmm, if I shop with DS2 I might have a hope of picking out something he'd wear. I think.

Of course, the only shirts he can stand these days are a) red with a big pink pig on it or b) blue with lots of penguins. Well, if the choice is between him tantrumming, or him wearing a shirt with a pig on it, I know which one I'm going for ...

Oh I hate, hate, hate formal suits on little boys! Yuk! I like shorts and shirts on little boys and trousers and shirts on older ones. I do like Rachel Riley and Tulip and Nettle I think this sort of shirt looks sweet on smaller ones.

Ooooh, that shirt is interesting. Their trousers don't look so formal, unless breeches are formal, suddenly?

Monsoon if you're prepared to pay. They have lovely linen suits with nehru collars. Formal without making little boys look like miniature waiters.

Debenhams often come up trumps

yes, Rachel Riley (and Tulip and Nettle) are really good quality. Much better than vertbaudet ime.
